My on-line claim status now says Approved: 03/26/2026  I spoke with Senator Moreno's Chief of Staff Monday, and with Congressman Latta leading the fight it looks like I'll get paid. Still nothing on the UZI, I'll just consider it gone at this point. Now to wait and see how long it takes to get that check from the USPS. |

One of my customers got a hold of Channel 4 News in Detroit, and they are going to do a story on the stolen UZI. The reporter made contact with their Postal Service Media contact and the person in charge of customer relations in the Detroit office called me this morning. The person I spoke to had no idea a machine gun went missing, but she will follow up with me on Monday when everyone gets back to work. I expect she'll hit a brick wall, but in the least this is riffling some feathers, and this is the first time I received any response from the USPS. Dear Steve Thompson, Thank you for taking my call this morning regarding USPS® Service Request 85980018. I regret learning of the inconvenience you have experienced. To recap our discussion:. You are highly concerned about a Registered Mail package containing a $25,000 machine gun, mailed with USPS Tracking Number RF29 4752 395U S, which has not been delivered and has had no tracking updates since 2/6/2026. You initiated a Missing Mail Search with the Atlanta MRC on 2/14/26, and the item has not been located. You confirmed the package was addressed to 4583 Dee Ridge Road, Sarasota, FL 34233 and filed a claim that was denied twice and then approved last week; however, you emphasized that your priority is for the firearm to be located and delivered. Because the item remains missing, you has reported the missing firearm to the ATF. I will investigate and follow up with you on Monday March 30, 2026. If you need to reach me , please give me a call. I think someone saw the insured value, then googled the address it was going to. When they found it was going to a gun store, they stole it. I don't think they knew it was an MG, but they knew it was a $25K gun of some sort. |

As expected the consumer affairs manager called me back and said she has nothing to tell me. She seems honestly sincere in wanting to help me. The media relations contact for the reporter had nothing to say either. I had a zoom interview with channel 4 today, and they seemed to be interested in making this the PR nightmare it deserves to be. |

I hope this becomes a huge nightmare for every single person at USPS who was involved with the theft and making this more difficult than it needed to be afterwards. There has to be a special place in hell for petty bureaucrats. I had USPS screw me over for claims on a lost or stolen set of very expensive books and a broken rifle. Not nearly the value of an Uzi, but aggravating nonetheless. |
