Does anyone have experience with a registered mail insurance claim after loss through the mail? I haven't lost anything, just wondering if there would be any hope in reclaiming anything should it happen.
I feel like if an MG is lost in the mail, USPS will push back really, really hard on paying out. Especially with how difficult it is to prove value, at least to the standard that exists with precious metals, art, etc. Are there other commonly used shipping insurance providers? |

USPS Registered is probably your best value, and the only way to insure something you're mailing for more than the maximum $5000 allowed on other forms of mail.
You can ship Fedex or UPS with that much insurance, but it'll cost you a LOT more. You could also pay to have it couriered, but that's probably gonna cost still more. USPS generally doesn't lose registered mail due to the strict handling requirements - every carrier who handles that package signs for it. |

That is what I hear and USPS restricted is all I'd used before. There are stories of things being lost even with registered. All I've heard is that UPS/Fedex "insurance" is supposed to be a joke or at least so wrought with rules and restrictions as to make it unreliable. I'm willing to look at 3rd party insurance if the consensus is that usps insurance is similarly difficult use. My job to get the item to its destination, just trying to cover all the bases. |
| My collectibles insurance policy covers shipping. So, I ship everything registered with USPS insurance (which isn't too expensive on registered mail because it's lost so infrequently) and have my insurance policy as a back-up. My recollection is that USPS registered insurance maxes out at $25,000, which doesn't cover the full value of many MGs these days. |
