Let's just say that I get one of the complete NoDAK Spud recievers...
What kit should I get? What other parts do I need to get? How hard would it be to complete the build? |
|
There are a list of vendors that have Uzi kits on our website.
Of those, RTG offers a "NoDak completion kit" that only comes with the things you need for the build. In addition, they include the front sling swivel that is always missing from the kits. The others come with the full-auto bolts and barrels which can be sold to recoup some $. ETA: We send along a build tutorial with each receiver. The cliff notes version: You will need to modify the sear pads and remove the top cover ratchet. Tear off the cardboard from the back of the recoil spring. Weld in a plate to the grip frame which blocks the forward movement of the selector to the "auto" position. You will also need to purchase a 16" semi spec barrel, and a complete semi bolt assembly w/ striker. (we sell the bolt kits) The hardest part is welding in the blocking plate on the grip frame, which is still pretty simple. D&D Sales offers a trade in service for the grip frames. You send in yours with some cash, and they send you back a modified one. |

Wow Mike, one of the most comprehensive replies ever posted on Arfcom. Nice job.
eta: I'm SBRing my Century (Global Machine) uzi. Given the semi front trunion, is it better to remove the complete rear ring with the front trunion holding a factory barrel only, or should I just cut the top off the ring and cut down some semi barrels? My intent is to occasionally use my fathers registered bolt in my SBR uzi. Finally other than opening up the sear pad holes any thing else you recommend to utilize his reg bolt with an auto trigger group? |

So I don't have welding skills... Who should I talk to? As stated in my first post, you can trade in your grip frame to D&D Sales for a pre-modified one. Don is a great guy to deal with. I sent them en email because I wouldn't find a kit that was "NoDak Completion Kit" on any of the links on your site... I really want one of the grip-frames with the hebrew lettering. |

While I'm leaning towards building, it's going to be about the same price... Should I just buy a completed uzi? I just got a century uzi. I know... Century.... Took it to the range today and it digested all kinds of ammo i could load on the magazines, which by the way loading uzi magazines is a pain in the ass. I had no jams. It came with 5 magazines 4 of which were kind of surplus rusted style... One of the mags was brand new. I paid about 780 bucks for it and if you want to sbr it keepshooting.com used to have original uzi barrels. |

Both my roommate and I have century AKs, my hunting buddy has a Century FAL, and besides fucking with the FAL to make it ban compliant. The one time that I had to contact century with issues with my AK, they took care of me with very good customer service. I might be leaning that route, but the Vector Uzi is only $100 more |

That $429 price includes shipping. But you make a valid point, some people are better off buying a factory assembled gun. I would buy the Vector over the Century however.................................. |

I had planned on buying a Vector if I was to buy one though. |

I only got a century because it was there at the store all by itself and it needed a home, and someone to care, clean, lube, load and shoot it. lol...
I am happy with it. It actually surprised me, taking in consideration other century products that I had before. |

Just out of curiosity, why would someone buy a century when a vector costs just a little more? lets see well uhmmm ........because I wanted too and it was my choice . I'll check in with you the next time I buy a gun and see if you approve though ![]() You truly are an idiot!!!! I asked b/c I have an opportunity to get a century, but wanted to get an opinion if the Vector is better since I do not have both to compare them side by side. |

The vector has a better reputation then the century. However I own a century and it has been flawless. Even the finish is not too bad. I read about people having problems with the first ones, but mine runs fine with any kind of ammo. |

Quoted: you're just waiting for me to ask questions aren't you? thanks for the info. So, is the aforementioned "nodak completion kit" a kit with already modified parts, or is it just a kit that comes without the bolt/barrel which can't be used on the semi-auto? Also, how do action arms parts compare? I'm considering buying a parts kit now and a welded receiver upon my 21st birthday if I decide like like the local sub gun/pistol caliber carbine matches. I've always been a huge fan of the Uzi. I've fired a lot of full auto sub guns and liked the full size uzi the most. I'd love an uzi carbine with a full sized stock. |

Quoted: I purchase a mint IMI model B with 10 mags for 900 bucks a while back. With deals like that on the real thing skip the century and the build. Unless you in it for the joy of the build I guess. Mainly, I can't afford either and am thinking about picking up a receiver only when I turn 21. ![]() Plus I do enjoy building firearms. I just don't have access to a welder. |

Quoted: Just buy the NoDak complete receiver.....you don't need a welder....the Uzi is easier to build then an AR...............Quoted: I purchase a mint IMI model B with 10 mags for 900 bucks a while back. from everything I've read I need to do welding on the pistol grip/lower so that the selector can't go to full auto. I'm sure I can modify the sear with a dremel. Other than that, this looks like an easy build. I'm having trouble finding 922r info though. How many "parts" does a semi auto uzi have for the purposes of 922r compliance? |

Quoted: You can trade in your auto lower to D&D + some cash for a semi lower....also I think the welded Nodak receiver has all the US parts you need except for a semi sear....but check their website for more infofrom everything I've read I need to do welding on the pistol grip/lower so that the selector can't go to full auto. D&D's lower costs more than the numerich parts kit. Plus, I'd like to have a hebrew marked lower. I figure, if I decide to go through with this, I'll buy the parts kit now, the receiver when I turn 21 and other parts as I can afford them. I figure a pistol caliber blaster would be fun! I could use it for sub gun matches, introducing new shooters to shooting, and the cool factor. ETA: Does anyone make an 18'' barrel? If I build an Uzi I will eventually SBR it, and intend to use a surplus wood stock, and would like to keep it quick detach. Otherwise, I'll just modify one. |
