[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Using CLP on wood?

Hey all,

Just curious if its alright to use Break-Free CLP on something with a wood finish. I'm not talking about pouring it on, just if I was wiping down a gun with a nice wood stock.

Not sure if this is the right place for this question, but the closest I found. Thanks for any information.

I would rather use something meant for wood. Brownells sells some nice stock polish. I dont know what its called though. It wont hurt your stock to rub it down with a a little clp but I wouldnt do it all the time.

IMHO it's not a good idea. CLP is not meant to treat wood as far as I know. The can doesn't say anything about wood. Oil penatration will ruin gun stocks over time.

Ballistol can be use on wood. As well as leather, and metal. Even as a mild antiseptic for small cuts and abrasions....really. It says so on the bottle.

And a good cologne. but break free is my favorite cologne.

No way for cologne, unless licorice filled Gym socks is your scent of choice.

Any petoleum based product will soften and darken wood over time, leading to cracks.

Beeswax polish available from Home Depot will give the same sheen and nourish / protect the wood.

$5 supply should last you the rest of your life.
