Question: With all the Battle Comps, etc. out there, does using one prohibit the use of a PVS-14 due to the visible muzzle blast at night? (ie. damage to the tube, etc.)

Thanks.

I would not use it. Depending on the rifle it could shut down the tube or white it out for a time. Neither of these scenarios is good for your expensive PVS-14. Get a good flash hider or a can.

Ditto. Grab a vortex or blackout.

Yep.

Brake flash is bad enough on your mk1 mod0 eye balls at night. Has to be exponentially worse on NODs

It might be worth remembering that it actually depends on the brake design. Many brakes do act as flash supressors too. Another point worth mentioning is that ammunition has a very big effect on the flash, IMO bigger than the muzzle device.

I usually use a gun with a break when I shoot at night. No problems really, but the break was designed as a dual purpose piece from the ground up.

As previously posted, I've been at war with the armadillos.  Currently on my dedicated .22lr upper (A1 flash hider; 16" bbl) I have an Aimpoint P.R.O. with my PVS14 mounted behind it.  The other night I got a shot.  I was surprised with how much flash I saw through the PVS14.  The flash appeared to be a circle of about a foot in diameter and about 6" long.  LIke I said, I was surprised with the amount of flash showing through the NV.  Ammo used was Winchester bulk long rifle hollow point.  I missed the armadillo; I think I shot low due to the short distance involved.  The flash appeared to do nothing to my NV.

Perhaps others who've fired with NV in place could post what they saw when firing at night, along with the particulars of caliber, barrel length, and what flash hider was in place.

I agree to a point. Many things will determine this such as barrel length , ammunition and of course what you have on the end of your weapon. Most things designed to do multiple tasks never work as good as one designed to do one intended task. My experience with brakes is minimal but I think it can't take the place of a good flash hider or a can.

High light flashes will slowly damage a tube. I would do everything I can to keep it at a absolute minimum if it were my scope. Just my .02
