Is it harmful for gear to be left fully loaded in a closet or safe for long periods of time? I'm not talking about lying on the floor or in a box but actually hanging vertically by a badass clothing hanger with 6 to 12 fully loaded 30 round PMAGS. I'm wondering if it would somehow over stress or stretch the stitching in the gear. If it helps any all of the gear is TT and HSGI.

This stuff is made to survive combat, it will be ok on a hanger,  No worries,

if your using plates, it is not okay to hang them. armor is not made for prolonged vertical exposure. it needs to be laid flat in a box, or in the bottom of your gun locker. my gear lays flat in my gear bag, on the closet floor.

Does it matter if they are hard or soft plates??

Kevlar/ soft vests should not be hung(my .02), plates dont matter.  Do I know people who have hung combat armor (soft lvl 3) off of a wooden cross for storage and had it still stop fragmentation - yes.  Would I hang my lvl 3 concealable body armor on such a device - fuck no.  Nor would I leave it exposed to UV, or just put it away wet and sweaty after a day of work.

Since I seem to be on a pic kick tonight, here is how I store all my shit, lvl 3 vests and plates included.

Nice gear and large duffel bags is a good idea that I never thought of. Noticed the sling on the rifle, I support Gear Sector also

for soft i.e. Kevlar yes. I don't why it would matter for hard plates, but I have steel ones, don't know about ceramic.

I have steel plates also, can't currently afford ceramic and with my luck I would get them and drop them on a corner within 48 hours.

Ceramics are more durable than you would think.  I wore a pair in the 8x10 size for a year in the corps as psd and we even did shit like swim in them.  To test them, we set them at 25 and shot them with m855. They each took 5-10 round before punch through.  And these were old plates.  We needed to "test" them before we ordered new 10x12's.  Just dont spike then on concrete and you will be ok.

thats one of my reasons why I did'nt get 'sexy' ceramics also

I leave my rig standing up mainly cause I have a hydro pouch attached to it ( which has it's own pro's and con's ) and I don't want all that weight laying on it.

I'm definately going to look into the duffel bags,, I might can find some for cheap at a yard sale even.

Edit: any reccomends on a good/tough duffel bag that doesn't scream "thousands of dollars of kill you?"

I googled "Airforce Duffles" and it gave me A LOT of sites with all different types of bags. Will you list a link or two to sites that have the bag you speak of. Also I will look at my local surplus store and see what kind of goodies that they have.

Don't hang it fully loaded if you're using MALICE clips or MOLLE, it will sag over time. Lay it down.
