I just purchased a SOCOM 16.  Has anyone every purchased one of the Vltor stocks for their M1A?  If so, looking for some advice on if this is a purchase worth making.  Thanks in advance.

Don't have one, but read MM's excellent reviews on it

Duffy,

I have read these reviews also ... I just don't know anyone who has gone a bought one.  Looks like I will just have to pick one up and let you know how it works.

I'm into anything Vltor makes, but for the M1A platform, I was an early adopter for the Sage chassis, and I got a Troy chassis last year, all of them with rails already installed, I never got a chance to play with Vltor's M1A chassis.

Vltor's will allow you to use an AR15 stock, but you can't fold it.  You can adjust the height of the stock, a great feature for an M1A, more important than the folding capability.  I think you have to buy the rails separately, I think they call it rail cluster or something like that

I have one. My 18" barreled Polytech sits in it nicely.

I've thought about grabbing a Troy MCS, and may yet someday, but for now I like to keep it lightweight and shoot irons. This stock does fine with both. If you want the ideal platform for optics then you might look at the MCS. For my needs the Vltor works perfectly.

I have a VLTOR stock, and it fits me great. It is light weight, but the addition of the cluster rail system greatly increased the weight. I am going to take off the cluster rail system and retro-fit a piece of picatinny rail onto the bottom of the forearm. That would facilitate a verticle grip, and a bipod. My Aimpoint is going either back onto the Scout mount that came with my SOCOM, or I will get a mount that will go over my action. I would reccomend the stock rather highly.

Hey GL, I've wanted to mount a bit of rail on mine for the same reason. Let me know what you come up with and how it works, huh? I particularly like those stubby fore-grips - would like it close to the magazine well as that's where I grip right now.
