So I'm going to take some photos and track along as I work on my Multicam SBR project. This sort of came around in a round about fashion. I sold my 5.56 carbine a couple months ago to fun a secondary SBR upper in 5.56 for my SBR lower that had a dedicated 6.8 upper. I later decided I didn't want to persue 6.8, so instead I simply decided to rebarrel it. Well, ripping out the barrel, I decided that while it was broken down, I might as well do some experimenting.
After seeing fivepointoh's tutorial, I decided I'd give it a shot.
Unfortunately, I wasn't able to find the exact paints he'd listed in his tutorial, so I had to deviate. Being partially red/green color blind didn't help when it came to selecting colors, so I called in some reinforcements to help me match paints to some multicam I had laying around.
I'll do my best to keep this updated.
Stage 1.
I bought some biodegradable generic "Green Cleaner" on the basis that it wouldn't leave residue. I began by completely breaking down the rifle and cleaning all the exterior parts that were to be painted. Wanting a really solid base coat, I then taped off parts I didn't want to mess with tolerances (Threading, holes, etc) I ended up spraying the first coat last night and hanging them in the apartment to dry overnight. After getting back from school, I applied a second coat to the larger pieces and set up a spray pan for the smaller stuff.
A picture of the bigger stuff with the second coat applied. I was using a Rustoleum as a base, and it has a tendancy to run. I only had a single instance of running, which happened to be on the upper surface of the lower reciever near the slot the bolt catch lever resides in, which isn't a huge deal.
Hopefully this stuff will dry tonight, in which case I'll mock it up and begin laying down secondary colors.
Updates imminent.
