| Well, I didn't really see an optics forum, so I thought I'd ask here. I have a scope that I inherited from my grandfather, many years after his death. It is a small tube, and the only markings on it are on the single adjustment knob. It says "Oigee Berlin 2.5x" I've figured out that it is a 2.5 power scope, tube is relatively narrow and only the occular lens is larger (maybe about 25-30mm max). It has a European "blade and two side post" reticle with only elevation adjustment. I'm not really planning on selling it, but I just wanted to see if someone had any clue what it was, how old, and maybe a retail value on it. Thanks. |

My "Old Rifle Scopes" book by Nick Stroebel says that the Oigee scopes were made in Berlin before WWI for sporting rifles. Some were adapted to sniper rifles (gew 98) during WWI as the army was quite deficient in decent scopes. They are noted as scarce in the uS but if there's any provenance that it was on a sniper rifle the price at least doubles. The Strobel book is 5 years old and lists the scope as $100 to $250 (again at least doubling that if you have any provenance that it sat on a sniper rifle). Hope this helps WBK Edited to add: of course I just saw this: k98k.com/sale2.htm so who knows how much it'll sell for?ETA#2 Check out google for oigee scopes. The internet is your friend |
