Does a walnut stock that was originally finished with BLO need to be completely stripped to refinish it with tung oil? Can you just put tung oil directly over the old finish?

I would recommend you completely remove the old finish. Tung oil works better that way. Charles the Gunsmith.

+1 Definitely remove the old finish. Then put it in your dishwasher and get it clean and steam out dents, then sand it, then finish it
