How is that PTT placement working for you? Guessing so you can retain comms with only your belt on?

I only plan to run comms when I wear my belt as I don't have any PC at this time.

My Peltor comtac IIIs have the wires ran and managed to the helmet, where I have an extension (because the peltor down leads were too short to reach belt).

Seems to work and not snag on any rifle/sling setup I use.  This way if I need to take helmet off I simply unplug from belt.

Oh and I have since moved the two pistol tacos on top of each of my rifle tacos and moved them back a slot.

Works fine just playing around with it.  This also allowed me to move my PTT to a molle slot.

If you do anything outside of just walking around that shit is going unplug.  Really bad location.  The nice thing about those is you just have to unplug your helmet from the plug that is clipped to your gear or shirt. Then just unplug the extension on the radio. Better yet do what everyone else is doing and wear your comms on your PC. Thats plate carrier not patrol cap.  I know, Im retarded.

I've moved in any way I can think of to try to get this thing to unplug and I just can't.  Not even with a rifle slung transitioning from shoulder to shoulder, slung behind me, does it ever snag or anything.  About the only thing I could think of would be if I was crawling on the ground that it may snag.  Haven't tried yet.

I have no PC.  Won't in the foreseeable future.  I was considering getting suspenders and mounting the PTT there but I cannot find a reason to get them except for me to mount my PTT and I'm not sure if it will even be worth it.

With a recent move, I unearthed a bunch of duty stuff I had packed away and forgotten about (some for good reason). Anyway, I came across my old pistol belt and decided to compare it to my last deployment's pistol belt.

The first iteration- I was an E-nothing fresh out of boot camp with zero idea what I was doing. We were issued "high quality, great" gear. After I made friends with a seasoned NCO, he suggested I modify my serpa by taking it off the drop leg platform. We used cargo netting and some screws to Macgyver a hip holster. Another seasoned guy gave me a spare set of Tactical Tailor magnetic pistol pouches which were great at the clearing barrel- I'd drop the mag and just let it hang off the side leaving my hands free to catch the chambered round. I tactically acquired the dump pouch and while it wasn't the greatest thing in the whole world, it worked. Seeing this belt brought back the memories of all the discomfort I experienced wearing it in 100 degree+ weather with 100% humidity for 14 hours a day. In conjunction with the unit-issued vest, I experienced issues with the pistol draw but I hated the serpa's drop leg platform. I swore I'd find a better solution.

It won't let me post more than 2000 characters, so I'm going to have to double-post. Forgive me.

[Last Edit: wildfish] [#13]
The second iteration- I was going out the door for my second deployment to another hot and humid place. This time, with more schools and shooting packages under my belt (figuratively), I was able to come up with a solution that fit my needs. After going back and forth over the drop leg, I finally found a company that made a drop leg setup that stayed put on my leg (that's a HSGI UDHP that I modified with a RTI wheel on the inside so I could switch back and forth between duty gun and personal). After attending an instructor course and witnessing first hand the failure of the serpa holster, I swapped over to the bail and never looked back. I hated the Camelbak from my first push, so I went back to the old school canteen/half liter plastic bottles on the belt. Sure, I traded some convenience of sucking through a hose, but I had fresh, clean water that didn't taste funny. The only con to this set up was sitting in vehicles but then I'd just move a water to my rifle mag pouch on kit (and caught hell for that one time because I forgot about it). It worked great for the 7 months in country, and super comfortable. I've had to replace some things on the belt because the old ones were jacked up from getting in and out of the vehicle, but overall it's held up remarkably well.

I was concerned about it being too bulky at first . When I actually finished it , it wasn't too bad at all. Sits right where I need them

Can you get a picture with the belt on?  Wondering what the trick to not getting the belt to sag with so much on one side is.

How is that PTT placement working for you? Guessing so you can retain comms with only your belt on?

Who are you communicating with that you need PTT so badly you're putting it next to your dick?

Thanks.

I have used a single FastMag on the belt and really liked it.  I did so rearranging on my belt and changed it out for a double decker taco and could never index as reliably or as fast as I could with a single fast mag.  I thought it had to do with the thickness but maybe that's not the reason.

I see a lot of guys here with open top "level 1" kydex holsters, and not a lot of level 2s. I am looking to build a belt, and would have originally though a level 2 would be the minimum considering its a "war" belt and you might be likely to find yourself in flexible positions, on the ground, etc. Do you open top guys not worry about ever losing your pistol from the holster?

I have a G17 with a TLR1 and was originally considering a bladetech L2, but curious to hear what y'all think.

G-Code XST is my go-to Level II for my war belts and OC use (along with Safariland Level IIIs). I crosstrain with whatever I can though.

But yeah, friction retention is usually just a casual range thing with me.

I've never had a problem with my G17 w/TLR1 falling out of my Fury Concealement "tactical" model holster fits snug.  If I took an impact hard enough to jar the pistol out of the holster I'd probably have serious internal damage.  That being said I do want to pick up a Bravo Concealment LVLII Light Bearing and possibly use that Fury holster to mount into the Jeep.

I dunno so far it hasn't been a problem rolling around sliding, falling down, jumping off of small ledges, going prone, ect.

The XST is a weapon only  level II retention holster by G-Code.  For a weapon/light holster from G-Code with Level II retention you will be looking at the SOC holster with a light cowling.

USMC belt with suspenders (from Old Grouch's)
For those looking at this thing in confusion I'm right handed and left eye dominant (so rifle is lefty)

War belt by Dan Passaro, on Flickr

From left-to-right:

Countycomm Large Personal Carry Case LINK.  In this case fits, just, an Izzy 4-inch bandage.  See detail pics further down.  I'd like something else though, so I can add a tourniquet.  I'm liking the THOR tourniquet.  I signed up for the release update.
Condor double mag pouch
Black Countycomm Pouch, multitool, padded LINK

Empty space.  I like this so that I can sit without twisting myself.

A second Black Countycomm Pouch, multitool, padded LINK
Condor universal holster.  I bought this to put in a bag.  I might actually keep it on the belt.
A knockoff ITW fastmag pouch, to see if I liked it.

As far as the mag pouches go I'm leaning toward the Esstac KYWI versions, possibly even the rifle double mag version if it is low profile enough.

Tactical Tailor MAV chest rig.
I put this together about four years ago.  I single layered the setup to make going prone easy.  I used it in rifle classes and it certainly helps when going prone; with cheek weld and what-not.

Left-to-right:

5.11 Tactical 6x6 general purpose pouch.  Earplugs, sunblock, whatever.
Condor triple mag shingle.  PMAGs tend to hang up, due to their ribbing.
Space for .... something.  Haven't decided yet lol.
