I looked at the M2 and M4 today and noticed the M2 was quite a bit lighter to the feel (M4 is 7.8 lbs vs the M2 at 6.7 lbs) than the M4 and the additional weight of the M4 felt to be in the forearm section forward. What makes the M4 so much heavier than the M2? What is in the M4's design that makes that extra weight feel like it is all in the forearm area?

Thanks for any comments.

As already stated, the M4 is Benelli's gas-operated offering. This easily explains the weight, as the gas system workings are forward of the action - i.e., in/under the forearm area.

I thought the gas system might be the rerason, I just couldn't see it being that much more weight.
