I could search the last few years of posts - but figure someone else probably knows more anyway.  Currently thinking of getting a new hole in the water to throw money into - so bust out another thousand starts coming into play (BOAT).  Read a LOT about low light devices for boats, but the boat forums are fairly quiet about vehicle tech - other than some saying it blows the dedicated boat stuff out of the water.  FLIR appears king of marine thermal - but comes with a very hefty price tag.  Most of what I have read about low light is between Black Oak and Sionyx Nightwave.  I think the Sionyx has some issues with differentiating it's current generation with it's prior one - so general posts are mostly in favor of Black Oak for quality and Sionyx for price.  I have seen Black Oak on sale for $3500, with Sionyx with an MSRP of about $1800.  The other real complaints are both tend to only have video in marina/urban bay environments - high ambient light.  They advertise that they can be used without IR pods, so not much showing how they perform with those either.

I have night fished before some - but that was a LONG time ago.  Q-Beams ruled.  On boating forums, there is a rather high level of hate against light bars - as they blind everyone else.  Where I have fished, I would be essentially alone at night - or at least expect as much.  Forums push radar fairly hard - never used that.  Just thought it would be nice to be able to easily get home after floundering.  That and honestly, I am mostly a nocturnal person anyway.

Besides price, the main issue I have with Radar is height.  My family has had a couple boats over the years.  We built a boat house for boat 1, and boat 2 fit in it.  Boat 3 did not, so had to modify a different building.  Boat 4 did not fit in the boat 3 house - so had to find a different building.  Boat 4 was stolen, and I am mostly just looking at replacing it with something very similar - but don't think it would fit where I stored it if it had a radar dome.  That said, rebuilding the doors on that shed is not impossible at least.

I have head mount mono's and bino's.  I could use a mono and still be able to watch gauges (have also head mounted thermal - but it weighs too much and bounces a bit).

Just investigation options and best options.  Cost benefit as well.  Getting video in will take an upgrade to the multi function display.  Hard for me to just think of depth finders and charters as apps on an MDF - but the past is past, and that is the now.  Easy to spend way too much just on smart displays.
