Curious what kind of mounts people are using for their Crye Precision Nightcap? My regular helmet has a Wilcox, but is that the best option for the Nightcap as well? |
| I've used Wilcox and Norotos universal shrouds and if money wasn't a factor I prefer the Wilcox. Just a FYI the Night Cap has pre drilled holes in the plastic stiffener to mount your 3 hole shroud, but they don't have holes in the fabric. Use a flashlight on the opposite side of the fabric and you'll see the pre drilled holes. Use a soldering iron with a fine tip to burn through fabric and cauterize it at the same time. Also like the other poster said the chin strap/harness always fits crooked, but is easily replaced with a Crye ACH H harness for @ 25.00 on Ebay. The split metal harness attachments that hold the Night Caps harness easily bends open so replacing it with an upgraded H harness is extremely simple. If you're concerned with cold weather a hoody easily goes over your night can or you can wear a thin skull cap inbetween your melon and Night Cap to stay warm. |

Good call on the strap replacement... I don't even have the NVG mounted to the nightcap and noticed it already doesn't fit right. Wasn't sure if it was just my big head... but sounds like it doesn't fit a lot of people. I think I already have a Ops-core VAS Shroud...as I replaced it with the Wilcox on my Ops-core helmet. Good call. Will check my parts stash.

If you use the factory nightcap it helps a lot to add a second strap lower in the back. It'll make sense when you get it. |

My Nightcap arrived, and I'm mostly quite pleased by it. However, the straps suck somewhat, so I went ahead and ordered the H-Nape Ops Core setup. I think that will be perfect. I'm less than thrilled by the battery/counterweight pouch. I would have thought it came with some way to store AA batteries, perhaps with a series of elastic loops. It's just a big rectangular pouch. I don't really want to dump a handful of AAs in there. It does have a panel of soft velcro on the inside. |

You can cut up a nylon/elastic 12ga shotgun or small rifle cartridge belt and use it to hold CR123As/AA batteries and store that inside of the Crye counter weight/battery pouch. |

I got a Wilcox WLS with tbat retractable lanyard due to the lack of solid retention options on the Nightcap. The NERD did not exist when I bought mine. My set up gets a great attachment point but is EXPENSIVE. Just a bit of advice. The Nightcap is thin and helmets are thick. Probably want a dedicated arm for the Nightcap as well as the mount. Will have different angle, eye relief, and height. Not having to 100% adjust everything, each time you swap from cap to helmet is sure nice. Honestly I have not done the Ops H-nape chinstrap mod but I need to. The asymetric Crye strap sucks... but it works. Just not comfortable and makes the whole thing want to shift as I wear it. But I wear an XL helmet and for smaller heads it can work OK. Good luck. |
