| I want something that is decent as a helmet mounted option but could be used as a clip on or dedicated scope with shooting likely no more than about 150 to 200 yards realistically. I would prioritize helmet use Over weapon mounting probably. Would like to keep total cost under 8K. Do I need to buy two separate units to do these things? |

This is what you seek: iray RH25, or that nox18 https://ultimatenightvision.com/IRAY-RH25 |

Like a lot of things - what do you want to do with it? If you have COTI you have short to mid range detection. A Nox 35 adds a layer of mid to long range detection as a handheld or a non-optimum head mounted unit. NV + COTI + Nox 35 + laser (as a BUES) is one answer, probably not the best answer if you were shooting hogs, but maybe a really good one for other things. ETA - since sub 5 digit clip-ons seem to be best suited for low to mid magnification & QD mounts are all pretty reasonable today, you might consider the choice is really about swapping out the day optic vs adding to the front of it. As long as shift is repeatable the outcome is pretty close. I've never felt as though a LaRue mount has been more than a 1/10 maybe 2/10s of a MIL off from being pulled out of a bag and put back on the gun. A Nox will need a short riser as the height over bore is skinny. |

Quoted: How do you feel about financing the Chinese and their military vs a US company? How do YOU feel about paying more for a lesser product, just because it's made in America? Please let us all know which U.S. made device can be used as a Clip-On in front of a Day Optic, Helmet Mount, Stand Alone Weapon Mount, and Handheld Scanner? Please also share the price. The iRay Rico Micro RH25 does it all, and at the price of $6000. |

Quoted: I think I want to prioritize helmet mounting since I do very little thermal shooting but I do want to be able to swap it over as needed particularly on something like a suppressed short carbine/PCC. The nox 18 is a little on the heavy side but if you remove the weapons mount and run a cr123 as backup for plug power it's similar to a pvs14. I mostly use mine on a short 9mm pcc and I love it. Stupid wide fov and with the circle dot reticle it's like a red dot with glowing targets. It's also easy to move around while looking through it on a rifle as long as you don't get too fancy. You just have to understand that pid will be limited at range. I'm only shooting around 100yds but I know people doing 300bo lob it out a bit further. The rh25 will give you more range if you're running it in clip-on mode. |

Which means you'll have mediocre to ok performance by trying to have a do it all optic. Also the Nox can be had for under $6k or used to be. The Horta was having issues with the Rico lagging when mounted inversed. I believe it should be as easy fix but nonetheless it's new so it has a ways to go before it's on the same field as N-vision products. |

IRay just released a firmware update that's supposed to fix that (if you had problems: I really didn't). They've only been out for a few weeks in the US market, so that was quick to make that update available. |

YMMV The benefits of a small QD clip-on unit should not be overlooked by those wishing for a more “tactical” application of thermal (as opposed to hunting). Some people are looking to add thermal without disrupting an existing rifle configuration by retaining their day optic and using a small clip-on. It is the main purpose behind the creation of units like the RH25 and Voodoo-S. Much like ARShooter91 said however, the performance of a “do all” unit can’t be expected to match that of the dedicated systems (helmet, stand-alone, clip-on). As far as serious hunting goes, most of those guys use multiple thermals each for their respective task. Given OPs use case of “about 150 to 200 yards realistically” and looking for “helmet mounted option but could be used as a clip on or dedicated scope” and under $8k…. The RH25 is obviously a fitting recommendation, and perhaps the only one. Unless he wants to cross clip-on use off his list, the RH25 is pretty much it. But I know a lot of dudes on this forum with a safe full of spare rifles, in which case it’s no big deal to make one a dedicated thermal rifle for general use. A Super Yoter R resides on one of mine. They also don't have MATRIX3 firmware or the ability to legally buy a US developed, purpose built weapon platform mount so there's that. There's been a sad train wreck of a thread here regarding that exact lack of warranty or repair issue with canadian purchased Infiray MH25 product. I wonder if that guy would have paid 17% more to not have been stuck with a brick? |

So there’s guys here that have a close working relationship with a Chinese defense company that are providing T&E for these weapon sights… Just seems like a weird relationship. And I more meant that US buyers should buy the $4500 Canadian one then shell out the $300 for the ADM mount if they want one of those. If you’re connected with the US importer, what sort of warranty claims have you seen in these first few weeks they’ve been out here? I know they’ve been on the international market quite a bit longer so figured most of the beta release stuff would have been shaken out (other than the jello thing - damn it was really bad when helmet mounted with the pictail). Is there some reason the RH25s being sold elsewhere can’t run the same exact firmware update package that was posted above? |

Quoted: I would say no. Definitely not better than the NOX (Edit - but folks are chatting about both the MH25 and the RH25. The RH is quite different) Yes, I think should clarify my thoughts would be RH25 vs NOX now. MH25 doesn't have quite what I want but cheaper. What about Oasys Skeeter IR L? Not sure exact model types but saw a few used unit for sale. |

Quoted: Yes, I think should clarify my thoughts would be RH25 vs NOX now. MH25 doesn't have quite what I want but cheaper. Then it probably just comes down to whether you want to clip it on in front of a scope and effective range. If you can do a dedicated thermal upper with the option to pop it off and go on your head, the NOX is pretty great. If you really want to clip it on in front of something, RH25. Their differing FoV factor into your typical engagement/spotting ranges - the NOX 18 is quite wide, where distant object will be tough to discern, whereas the NOX 35 pushes out to distance quite well and the RH25 is a balance between the two (the two-digit number reflects the diameter of the objective lens, and they all have the same pixel density on their sensor, so those give a pretty good idea of field of view). For me the recording features on the RH25 are really really nice as compared to the very simple NOXs. Just to illustrate the FoV differences - NOX 18 | 24.3degH | 129ft wide @ 100yd RH25 | 17.5degH | 92ft wide @ 100yd NOX 35 | 12.2degH | 64ft wide @ 100yd |

That is actually some of the most retarded advise that has been shared on this forum IMO. Import a zero warranty supported grey market optic that you can't send back to Canada or China for repair or replacement because the initial sticker price is lower on paper? I'm sure it was an innocent oversight because you're not really interested in a Chinese optic and you hadn't spent much time thinking that side of ownership through. I can't fault you for that but the warranty and support factors of grey market purchases need to be weighed by others being that I've seen at least 2 threads in this forum this week with potential buyers considering taking that route If you’re connected with the US importer, what sort of warranty claims have you seen in these first few weeks they’ve been out here? Was more concerned at the iRay US operation that was stood up with staff providing T&E for thermal devices back to China. I have no visibility on any of that though, just making gross assumptions - there's a bunch of things folks have found with them in the last few weeks, so maybe the T&E in the US wasn't really that in-depth. Just an icky setup in my mind to have Americans sending technical feedback overseas. If there's a foreign source for a better unit, I don't really have a problem buying it. It's the back and forth with our feedback and product development of their items that makes me a little more nervous. The US-purchased RH25 I have in my hand at the moment is currently giving me a helluva time trying to get the jello update installed this morning, so hopefully I'm not actively bricking my buddy's unit if the firmware stuff really is an issue

That is a monumental assumption. Regarding the The IrayUSA T&E process prior to import and distribution process I can somewhat see your point on. I have zero doubt that these were hammered and spent months circulating their hunting circle but many of the complaints brought up by purchasers in the last couple weeks are people using it outside the perimeters that it was tested in. Horta driving around with duals at 25mph complaining of jello lag at the bottom portion of the view in the HMT configuration as a prime example. | FWIW, I think the "jello" issue was a total nothingburger. I'm running dual RH25s and my golf cart tops out at 28mph. Driving it presents zero problems whatsoever. It's honestly amazing. If Horta hadn't mentioned the jello, I never would have noticed it. And now there's a firmware update that fixes it? Let's move on. |

Yeah I’m probably just bitter at the whole iRay situation where it was gonna be $2k MH25s for a little bit there, then agreements were signed and now the sole importers have doubled the price (maybe that’s all Trump tariffs like you said, I dunno). Sure wish there were more lower cost 640px units out there like the Bering Phenom for $3200 or the AGM Fuzion for $2800 (which also has a digital NV sensor and LRF…) - $4k for an MH25 seems crazy. What’s up with all the tactical timmy larper talk about clipons? Is it because the US model is painted brown? The Super Yoter C and Pulsar Krypton seem to be quite popular units, and the RH25 opens up the wider FoV capability to legitimately do double duty as a handheld/helmet optic. While it’s fine to tell people to just build another thermal-only upper, being able to slap a clipon in front of what you’ve already got dialed in is pretty slick. I’ve only been using this RH25 i borrowed from a buddy a few weeks but it’s been great for the territory around me. Still can’t figure out how to get it to update firmware over mobile wifi though… will have to try the browser method next. |

At least the RH. I'm not interested in the Yoter C or the Krypton erector set. I choose to buy optimized tools for a specific job and have little interest in multitools. I'll likely scoop up a used IrayUSA RH someone dumps at some point solely for my use as a clip on. The tac timmy references I made were directed to some segments of buyers who are taking a tool that was T&E'd extensively and marketed within the context of use of "best hunting practices" and then those fringe buyers complaining it wasn't tested because it doesn't do all the stuff perfectly for their ideas of tactical use. |

He picks up his phone and doesn’t mind speaking with customers if you have any questions. http://www.sureshotnightvision.com/ |

Quoted: Update. Went ahead and got RH25 from Nocturnally. Still looking at getting Nox18 for comparison especially if I can find a used one. Scott says N Vision will still be in short supply for a while. Is that vendor actually Nocturnality? I can't find a Nocturnally shop on google. Trying to compare prices etc thanks! Sureshot seems like a great deal though ;) |

It comes with a dovetail mount. See my post here. The IRAY is nice but from what I've read it is 1.1 or 1.2 magnification through the eye piece, whereas the NOX is 1, meaning it will pair nicely with a PVS14 bridged. The IRAY will work just fine in non bridged mode. |
