If you wanted to swap one can between a 5.56, .22lr and .17hmr, which can would you choose? .22 would get the most use being the cheaper round..... |

.223 is really .224 in diameter, 22LR is really .223.
While you can fire 22 LR through a .223 can, its not recommended because 22 LR is so dirty and the vast majority of .223 cans are sealed which will make it very difficult to get all that 22 LR junk out. There are folks out there who do it of course, but after seeing how much stuff builds up inside my Sparrow after just a few hundred rounds I sure as hell wouldn't be putting a sealed rifle can on a 22 LR. |

Too much pressure for the can. Check with manufacturer for which can can withstand what round. I have suggested many times in the past, one more wont hurt. For all your can needs you should get a QD 30cal rifle can, a 45 cal Osprey, and a 22 cal one. The 30cal QD can have flash hiders threaded to swap the can from host to host 300winmag and below; the Osprey can swap pistons to different thread patterns 45 and below; a 22 for all your rimfire needs. (or 17hmr if your can will accept it) |

A suppressor only works on knocking down the noise at the muzzle. Once the bullet leaves the firearm, then nothing can be done about any noise that ensues. Most people,myself included, will suggest hearing protection for 5.56/.223 suppressed. There is nothing you can do about the sonic crack from supersonic ammunition. I would start with a .22lr can. It is amazingly quiet. I started with a .22 and now have a 30 cal QD can. I'm impressed with 300 BLK suppressed, but 5.56 is still loud. It's much better, but it is still loud.

If you get a .22 LR can you will not regret it. Suppressed subsonic .22 is like magic, really. It never gets old.
In addition to the Element you could also look at the SilencerCo Sparrow. Its what I have and I love it. It can also be used for the .17 rimfires. |
