I'm gonna start saving for an ACOG for my FAL.
What is general consensus for model on the FAL? |
|
I used a TA11C on my FAL (no optics on it now) but would probably get an E if I did it again. DSA's 3.5x35 ACOG mount is awesome (you can even still use your irons).
ETA: I did add a strap on cheekpad to the rifle for a better cheekweld. |
| +1 I'm saving up for the TA11E-G: 3.5x35 Trijicon ACOG® Illuminated Scope with Green Chevron Reticle and I am sending my DSarms Extreme Duty Extended Scope Mount for this http://www.dsarms.com/gunsmithing.asp |

I ordered the TA11J -308 for SA58 from Optics Planet. They have the best prices by far but unfortunetly, they are back ordered. I intended to link to SWFA on the TA11C link above, rather than Optics Planet. The prices are the same (okay, SWFA is always 5 pennies cheaper) and I was very impressed with SWFA when I originally ordered my TA11C. This is not to say that ACOGs may not be backordered at SWFA as well. I would have ordered my most recent optic from SWFA also, but they don't sell Nightforce |

I was thinking of going with a Larue QD mount as I assume they work on a FAL with the DSA railed dust cover. I don't want the optic sitting up too high. I'm certain the LaRue QD will put the ACOG up higher; the bottom of the ACOG is attached directly to DSA's mount. This is a pic of my FAL when it wore the TA11C: http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c247/mr_krebbs/DSAACOG.jpg |

I don't want the optic sitting up too high. I run a Trijicon MM07 mount with a Compact ACOG on my PARA, it was the lowest mount I could find. For me, it sits low enough that I don't need a cheek rest on my stock. Here's a link to the mount: http://swfa.com/Trijicon-Compact-Acog-Mount-P546.aspx |

I took a look at that mount, I am interested in it.

The MM07 is sort of quick detach –– it's got a thumbscrew with a screwdriver slot, so depending on how much you tighten it you might need a screwdriver to remove it. Also, note that the MM07 uses Trijicon’s “special ring” mounting system which limits your Compact ACOG choices. I'm out of town right now, so it would be this weekend before I can hopefully take a photo. B_D |

I see there is a Horseshoe reticle available also. Which reticle do most of you prefer?
TA11E-G Green Chevron Reticle
TA11H-308G Green Horseshoe Ballistic Reticle

Well I just got back from dinner with a guy who has been in Iraq for at least two tours and is going back(this time as an Army firefighter-other two times were in a combat role) and he preferred the chevron to the horseshoe, but also added he wasn't a fan of ACOGs because they are magnified.
So coming from a true boots on the ground fighter the chevron is his preference and lower the magnification the better. |
