I'm looking for a new pair of boots.  I have been pretty happy with my hi-tech ankle high hikers but they only last me about six months.  I'm thinking of trying out a pair of Merrels for every day wear/run and gun/hiking.  I live in extreme wet heat for most of the year and prefer an ankle high boot.

The "ventilators" seem like the way to go, of course I will be limited as to what local places carry.  I'm not ordering a pair of shoes sight unseen, but I want to know what to look for.

The Moab Ventilators are a pretty good choice.  They stay relatively cool in the heat and have a decent amount of support.....not a bad boot for $80.

I have had my Moab Ventilators for a couple years now, love'em, they are very comfortable and have held up well.

I've had my Outland Mid's for about three months now and have been very happy with them. They are the best hiking boots I've ever owned.

I looked around town for two days and couldn't find anything but the low Moabs.

I just ordered a pair of the mids off of Cabela's, I just hope their sizing is accurate!

My wife rocks Merrell shoes. They can fit her orthotics and they last a decent length of time.

Check out the Merrell Sawtooth. I bought a pair based on the review at Military Morons. I also picked up the Superfeet green insoles. I gotta say I love these boots!

I bought the boots at Shoebuy.com for $90. They have frree return/exchange shipping if the boots don't fit right.

Check out allegromedical.com for the insoles. They had the best price.

A co-worker convinced me to try this with Zappos.com.  Free shipping both ways.  It does make sense.

Merrell Ventilators on Zappos.com

I order all my running shoes from Zappos.  Usually another pair of the ones I already have, but I've done a few shoes that I haven't previously owned.  I order the two sizes closest to what should fit, and ship back the one pair that doesn't. They credit your card when you return.

I won't ask how much you paid,  but which ones did you end up with, and how are they working out?

I got the Moab XCRs, I think the ones on that page are the lower end ones (no gortex?) so the price difference is a wash.  What is cool is the ordering two part.  I haven't gotten them yet though, should be tomorrow.  I have a multigun Sat so I will find out pretty quick.

I got jungle Mocs last year and they suck ass.

The jungles have zero padding in them.  I am trying hard to wear them out so I can get some winter mocs again.
