Im looking at a .22 LR plinking rifle. Between the M&P 15-22,Sig 522, GSG 5-22,or CMMG dedicated .22 rifle since I have a spare AR lower sitting around.

If I was in your boots, I'd go with a dedicated upper.

Skip the plastic/pot metal toys - get the CMMG.

Save the extra money for ammo and get a drop in unit for your ar.

I'm leaning toward the CMMG.
But for some reason I really want the SIG.

I'd go with a dedicated .22LR upper. I have a Spikes .22LR upper set up exactly like my 5.56 upper.

What about the Colt/Umarex 22LR ?

A buddy of mine had a Colt/Umarex M-4 and I much perfer the CMMG/Atchisson style of dedicated 22 upper.  I also like the Nordic, DPMS (new release) and Tactical Solutions over the Colt/Umarex which uses mostly propietary parts and mags.

Junk.  A friend bought one and it didn't work.  They warrantied it for a second one and it was broken before it left the store.  I have 5 mags on my bench for that rifle that I need to sell for him.

Dedicated .22LR uppers are awesome.  I shoot mine more than my other ARs combined.

I love my M&P 15/22.  If you have kids that will be shooting this 22, the S&W is the way go.  My daughters shoot it very well.  They can easily handle it.

Uhm, why not 10/22?

So where is the best place to buy a dedicated upper? I'm in!

While I like CMMG, I voted for "other" because my H&K MP-5SD .22 is just so much fun, accurate, reliable and to date, no problem at all.

Since it appears you are looking for an AR type 22LR, I would go with the dedicated upper, it only makes sense, why spend twice as much an only have something that can shoot 22LR, if you own an AR already it's a no brainer. I have a drop in bolt conversion for my AR and it's accurate enough for me, although I am not using it for hunting just plinking.

I agree the HK MP5 22LR is fun but that is not what you want then no point in looking at them

Get a dedicated upper...you will not regret it.

I'm assuming he wants an AR-style .22, but I have to admit that WAS the first thing that popped into my mind, as well.

If that's not the case, it would be my vote too.

I once owned the S&W AR-22. It was accurate but I could never get thru a single mag w/o at least one FTF, so I traded it in. I ended up with the Sig 522 & have a little red dot on it & couldn't be happier. I also had an earlier GSG-5L. I liked it, but it was WAY over priced for what it was: a pot metal gun.

Buy the Sig & never look back, IMO.

the MP 15 22 is a SOLID fully functional, all dedicated .22lr trainer; if not, the upper is good to go to
