+1

Out of your other choices I would take the FAL, or if you can find an older Pre-TC barrel PTR-91 that would be nice too.

In that order.

If after or before buying the FAL you feel the need to go for an AR pattern then Rock River Arms will give you mag compatibility. On the other hand so will the RFB but they are a little harder to find.

My PTR-91 KF has be great to me in the accuracy department however it will choke on tar sealed 7.62.

With that being said, most parts are super cheap like magazines.

The Scar 17 is a really good gun from what I heard so far, it just depends if you want to spend that much.

Is there any budget? Also, what is the intended use? SHTF? Hunting? Range toy?

What he said, or look for a home-built FAL on the EE or the FAL Files Marketplace. Nothing wrong with DSA, but you can save some cash with this method. If there are any problems, FAL's are stupidly easy to fix.

Budget is 1,100 -  It will be more like a range toy, but I like my most of my toys to be kind of SHTF guns

I have my eyes set on a DSA STG58 ....  I think I may go with it...

You don't have to specify "ArmaLite" because they are the only ones who make the AR10.

Me personally, I would go with something like this.

I know its over your budget for this particular one, but I'm sure one similar will run less. I always waned to set up a 308 AR platform carbine like the one above, but could never justify the price.

I just went through this for the past 3 months trying to decide what rifle to get.  I had a factory HK-91 at the time.  I love those rifles and will buy another but it's more of a "collecting/take to the range to run a mag or two and put back up in the safe" kind of rifle.  I wanted something I could add a few goodies to and run hard.

FAL was out because it's and is heavy after you get a rail and scope mount on it.  That was out.

I've had M1A's and they're nice but not my cup of tea.  You can't run hot loads through them without fear of bending op rods and as with the FAL, to get a stock with some rails you're getting too heavy.

The FN SCAR-17S really had me interested when they came out until they decided to not sell any spare mags.  I want 20mags/rifle at a minimum and even when they are available they'll be $40+ each.

The RFB is pretty new and unproven but it may prove to be a good option...time will tell.

I'm not a fan of AR-10's that use Armalite M14 style mags so there goes that option.  All that left for me was DPMS/Larue/Knights.  DPMS is hit or miss on quality....Larue's OBR is a very nice rifle but I'm not going to use a RISR just to be able to use optics because they only offer the rifle with a canted rail (20MOA?).

POF .308 AR's and the LMT MWS are great options and have many nice features.  I'd look really hard into these if you want a .308 AR.

Looking at the Knights rifles in person I was very impressed. The only thing that I didn't like was the price... but you only buy once cry once.  Just bought a SR-25 EM Carbine (16") and it has everything I'm looking for.  Heavy 5R chrome lined barrel that's dimpled to keep the weight down.  Rail with built in BUIS.  Uses SR-25/PMAG's which are cheap (+/- $20 each) and available.  The trigger is great on these rifles and they have a few improvements that make them more reliable than most other .308 AR's.  If you can swallow the price tag then it's a great option.  That said I sold 3 guns to purchase it.

Because they aren't AR10s.

But, you know that.  Just stirring it up.

Get an AR-10.  Armalite to be specific, DPMS AR-10's are not a bad option either if you don't want to pony up the extra 25%.  However, you will not regret paying that 25% extra if you do get an Armalite.

+1 but unless you're made of money or are willing to sell a few other rifles like I did...they're really up there.  Optics will have to come next month.
