Loading .45 Auto with Winchester 231 for use in a 1911 5".

5.9 grain of Win. 231
Bullets are Magnus 185grain JHP,
Primers are Winchester "WLP for Standard or Magnum pistol loads".
1.200 - 1.205" O.A.L.

Hodgdon indicates 5.9gr of 231 is Max load behind a 185gr JSWC bullet
Speer #14 manual indicates 6.6gr of 231 is the Minimum behind a Speer 185gr GDHP.
and
Lyman 49th Manual indicates a minimum 4.4gr  and  a maximum of 6.1gr. of Win.231 behind a 185gr JHP. Seems published data is kinda all over the place.

My question is do you think 5.9 grain of Win.231 behind a 185grain JHP bullet is too mild?
Soot on spent cases is ok.
A bullet stuck in the barrel is not ok.
If it matters, I have various recoil springs to try in my S/A 1911A1.

What charge of Win 231 do you use behind a 185 JHP or 230gr. JHP?

I wouldn't call it mild. Upper mid range would be a more accurate description.

I use 5.5 W231 under 200 g lead semi wad cutters and they are in the upper mid range.

Load 5 and shoot them over chrono and see where you is at velocity wise.

Are you sure that is right? Shouldn't that read where you be at?
