I have a SGW RR I bought years ago made from an Olympic forged receiver I bought for $12000. It was blue printed by M60 Joe and refinished for a little less then $1000. Looks brand new and runs like a top. It’s in a MK18 configuration with a DD upper. What’s it worth now? |

Just the observations of someone who has been watching. They have been going up - basically very few RR on the market right now. They just suddenly disappeared and the prices went up. DealerNFA had maybe 20 M16 listings and then all of a sudden zero. Just before pandemic it seemed like 18k ish. Now seems like more like 20-25. Midwest had an SGW listed in their last news letter for 22,995. So I would guess 25k or even a little more would sell in a little time, 23k probably sell quick, 20k would sell right now (seriously - as in I would be interested at that price). |

That MK18 crap would be a giveaway at best. Sell it seperatley. Its not era correct for an A1 anyway. |

The Olympic one I just looked at was also marked SAW at the bottom of the mag well. |

RenegadeX put one up for sale and had it "SPF" within a day at 26K for a stripped receiver. https://www.ar15.com/forums/Equipment-Exchange/SPF-Olympic-SGW-M16-Lower/118-2221983/ |

For anyone looking, there's a Colt M16 currently bid to $30k on Gunbroker. https://www.gunbroker.com/item/924745784 There's an Olympic SGW for $27,500 and no bids. Buy it now of $29,500. https://www.gunbroker.com/item/922196434 |

Maybe that is what you meant by "pre-ban" but usually that term (i.e. Preban) is usually used in relationship to Pre-1994 manufactured semi-auto AR15s that were exempted from the 1994 Crime Bill "AKA Assault Weapon Ban" Semi-Auto pre-94 "pre-ban" Olympics still have a high value compared to a normal semi-auto AR lower (like $800 to $1000 for a pre-94 Oly semi auto lower) as there are one or two States where there are still 90s era semi-auto "Assault Weapon" bans on the books and pre-94 Olympics are exempt from those State level bans. In this discussion, any transferable full auto M16 is worth probably at least $25K today at the low...low end of the pricing spectrum and Oly/SGW M16s are worth a bit more than the very bottom of the price range and currently seem to be in the $28K to $30K price range. Hope this helps. |

Pertains to post #6 from October 2021 regarding SGW listed at $23k. Sorry for the late response. Just got back on this site after many years of absence. I happened to pick that one up as I like the old "milled" SGW/Oly lowers. After I made the deal, I noticed that the receiver did not have the third hole. (It's a RR with a DIAS conversion). It's still pending though I have looked at it at my C3. What I find interesting is that the DIAS has a serial # the same as the receiver but it (the DIAS) is also marked with name and state. The rifle itself is in a title I condition (16" barrel). Once completely in my possession, I plan to attempt to research the initial NFA form (1 or 2) that put it into the registry to begin with. From the research I've done, I realize that the wisdom of the "elders" is that this is not the most preferred conversion that one would strive for but at this stage in life, it's not a huge concern to me:) I would be anxious to hear a general discussion on this type of a conversion (DIAS) but admit that at the time it would have made sense to go this route from an individual's form 1 standpoint. |
| I've got a P.A.W.S. / Oly M16, been offered north of $24k just the lower. I'm in no need or hurry to sell it: Dunno, figure when it gets up around $30k and I'm done with it, it'll be time to say goodbye. (I'm a SOT, so I can make post samples if needed. This is my last transferable. Kinda shouldn't have sold my American 180 though...) |

You did great as a seller. Converted SP1 pricing is more in the mid-high 20s. Colt m16a1 rifles are in the mid to high 30s. Colt m16a1 carbines are in the high 30s to low 40s. I’d put a forged non-Colt RR at $25k, one that’s been blueprinted by m60joe around $28-32k. |
| A guy's had a "Stop Sign" OA registered receiver lower only (but the lower has a Geissele select fire trigger pack) for sale on the Uzitalk WTS Full Auto board for several days at $28K. The ad says it's on a Form 4 in FL, but doesn't say who pays transfer fees or insurance and shipping. |

If you can undo the deal, I would. This is an incorrect conversion (I forgot the term that the ATF uses). As it is still done today, the NFA Branch does not check for proper conversions of NFA registered firearms. It is the responsibility of the “maker” of the NFA firearm to do a proper conversion. It is my understanding that the registration using the serial number of the Title I receiver would be of a registration of the lower receiver as a registered receiver machine gun, not a conversion device. It would be close to twenty years ago, a member here posted that he had such an unaltered semi auto with a DIAS that used the serial number of the Colt SP1 receiver. The owner had written to the NFA Branch describing how the conversion of the machine gun was configured and asked if the DIAS could be destroyed and the modifications to the lower receiver could be done to make the lower receiver a true RR M16. A few weeks later two ATF agents came to him and asked to see his machine gun. They confirmed the configuration of the conversion, handed him a receipt for his gun and left. It is my understanding that the ATF considers this a kind of “chicken and egg” problem. If the DIAS is destroyed before the lower receiver is modified, there is no machine gun, so the registration is voided. ATF has already determined that a DIAS is considered to be a machine gun. If the lower is modified before the semi automatic lower (the firearm) is modified to accept the USGI auto sear, then two machine guns exist but there is only one registration. That is my understanding of how the ATF views such modifications. He posted as such here and asked for referrals for a lawyer that might be able to help him. I lost track of this thread. This, to me, is a cautionary tale for such machine guns. Will such a gun transfer? Absolutely, until the ATF finds out about this configuration. Let’s face it, things tend to be getting more constricted instead of less. With values going up, loosing a couple of thousand dollars wouldn’t break me. Loosing close to $30,000 would be a lot more upsetting. It is your money, do what you want. But it is hard to make a decision without all the information. I am sure there will be those who say that it has paperwork, so there isn’t a problem. It is just a risk that I would not take. My kids might not want my machine guns. But once I pass away, they might very well want the money. YMMV. Scott |
