Ok... Thinking of picking up a can for my P22 but I really want to kill 2 birds with one stone. How effective will a .223 can be on a .22lr?? How bad of an idea is it? What about thread sizes? I believe the P22 is a 1/2 x 28 but the .223 has a heavy barrel, will it thread down to the same size?

Total newb questions perhaps so anyhelp is appreciated!
Thanks

They both have the same thread size (1/2 X 28), but the MUCH larger 5.56 suppressor is a LOT heavier than the .22lr suppressors.  Here's an M4-2000 suppressor on a Walther P22:  (pg 19 of the pistol thread)

It was taken as something of a joke.  Sure, it will work, but it's GROSSLY inefficient.

However, if you know you want a .22lr and a 5.56 suppressor, and the 5.56 is more important to you, go for it.  You'll end up buying a .22lr suppressor later if you find you really enjoy .22lr suppressed shooting.

I'm getting the .22lr first, THEN the 5.56 can.

It may be inefficient, but i think that looks awesome...for some reason....

I am waiting on the BATFE for my approval, then i am going to get a tac innovations upper for my ruger mark I.

Ok... so its inneficient.
How much so? Does it even work at all?
What type of DB does it take out?

By inefficient they mean it is overly large and overly heavy and can handle pressures way beyond the .22lr as for silencing it will be as quiet as a dedicated 22lr can that is smaller and lighter.

A good 5.56 can should be crazy quiet with .22lr but it is heavy.  (the M4QD is basically silent with .22lr. but it weighs 22 ounces without the mount.

Try the HTG universal.  It sounds like a good compromise.  It's not the best 5.56 can, but most 5.56 cans will ring your ears anyway.
