The wrench flats on my brake are not wide enough to put a wrench on for installing my QD brake.

Besides grinding my wrench down to make it skinnier I can't think of any more ways to install this. I tried a strap wrench, but it just slips on the brake.

My barrel (and the diameter of the provided shims) are larger than the brake's 3/4"/19mm flats.

Has anybody solved this one?

I've had the same problem before, I ended up putting a hard rod though the ports and torquing it on with that, but there are thin wrenches out there, usually stamped, I just didn't have one as big as 3/4"

Were you able to get to the full recommended torque this way? YHM recommends shimming so you need to tighten the last 1/4".

Did you use a wood rod? I thought of that, but I was afraid a metal one might burr the ports.

I managed to get it torqued well enough and I used a rod that was a pretty snug fit in the port, so all I got was a shiny spot, no burrs.
Even if you do roll a small burr, you can knock it down with a file.  If you shoot it with the suppressor, you'll never notice it again.

I've seen thin wrenches for that purpose. I forget where though. Next time I'm at harbor freight I should look.

I would not be opposes to this, but my barrel is also larger than the flat so that would not help in my case.

I just used a screwdriver wrapped in a cloth through the ports...............and hell if I know what it's torqued at

Seems straight on to me.

A wooden dowl rod or a well wrapped screwdriver would both work.

Yeah, mines covered by the rail so I can get away with it looking shitty as it cant be seen

You can use a tappet wrench. They are thinner than a normal wrench. Or an AR15  multipurpose armorer's tool with a spot for flash hider flats.

I have a set of bicycle cone wrenches I use for narrow stuff. They work great and are sold all over the place in nearly all common sizes.

I measured the maximum thickness that could be used and it looks like a tappet wrench in 19mm or 3/4" that is less than 0.180" would work.

I found one from McMaster Carr:
54755A57

Its a little expensive, but I'm going to bite the bullet and pick one up.

I have an extra 3/4" wrench that I ground thinner. I wouldn't grind down a Snap-On wrench, but a single Craftsman one doesn't cost much.

Yup. Did this on my 300 blackout.

Lowes sells sets in small plastic bags that vary from 1/4" to 1" and are thin enough to torque on muzzle devices.

I got my wrench from McMaster today. That wrench was made for this application I swear...Highly recommend it to anybody trying to install a YHM QD Mount
