I found a Yugo M98 at the local gun store.  It has the Yugo crest on the receiver and "Mod 98" on the receiver.  From what I have read, these were reworked from German K98's.  Are they more desirable than the regular M48?  Price for rifle only is $299.  There is a little bluing missing on the barrel near the front site but otherwise is very nice including the bore.

It depends on the buyer.  I would rather have one of those than an M48, just from a "been there, done that" standpoint.  I also think it would be easier to find parts for a standard length 98 action (which the k98 is), than an intermediate length like the M48.  On the other hand...  you can find M48s in much better condition.  All in all, I think they are comparably priced and it comes down to which you like better.

The price seems about going rate to me, so if you like it, go for it.

I'd go for it. Still waiting to pick mine up from the gunshop due to recent insanity.

If it has "Mod 98" on the receiver, I don't think it's an M48, but rather a K98. If it's in good shape, that's certainly a fair price.

M48 have a shorter action. What you have there is probably a k98 rebuild which is still a good buy if in good condition.

What you looked at is not a M48, it is a Yugo capture K98.  Basically the Yugo's took captured German K98's, reworked them, including new barrels, scrubbed the receivers, and re issued them.

The M48 is a different action, the bolts, and receivers are not the same.  Also, the top handguard is different as well.

$299 seems on the high end for a yugo capture, but hell this day in age nothing surprises me.  I paid under $250 for mine, about 2 years ago.

Picked it up today for $300 out the door.  Hard to tell in the pic, but the bottom of the bolt handle still has some eagle and numbers left from the Germans.

Looks like a fairly decent example of a Yugo reworked 98k. Stock is a Yugo made replacement.
