I am loading my first .223 rounds as I am a new reloader. I was wondering what the best bullets were to use for varmint hunting and then just plinking? Any advice will help.

Thanks.

A decent compromise is the Hornaday 55gr SP with channelure they are good for accuracy and do expand well. and they are relatively affordable my 2cents

so basically that bullet is a good all around bullet? What about a bullet that is top notch just for hunitng?

First of all it´s interesting what kind of barrel you have (length and twist).
Then what animals you´re going to hunt and what distances you want to shoot.

Made your link to the 55 gr Hornady soft point hot.

It's the second button from the right on the Insert Tags line.

OP, this is a good bullet for your purpose.

I have had good results with Montana Gold 55 grain bullets.  About $7.90 per 100 when bought in bulk.

This is out of the AR I built earlier this year, 20" stainless 1/9 twist DPMS bbl.  Temp 102 degrees!

For what kind of hunting? If deer then I would lean towards a Barnes TSX. For varmints and plinking the Hornady 55gr SP works great.

If you want to hunt with it, Barnes X bullets, Nosler Partitions, or a Swift Scirroco would be my picks.

My personal experience with the Hornady 55 gr spire point is hunting prairie dogs and coyotes, it is extremely effective on both, I don't have any experience with hogs or anything bigger.  I'd love to try it out on hogs, but I haven't had the opportunity so far.
