I will be getting my first .22 cal suppressor soon.  Just wondering where you guys are getting your ammo.  I found a case of Federal 40 gr. Standard Velocity Target Grade #714 for $199 for 5,000.  Is that a good deal?  I stopped by Wal-Mart and they don't have any subsonic in stock.

Do you guys a particular 22 round you like the most with a suppressed 22?

I will be shooting it out of a P22 and a 10/22

Before you buy 5K rounds of any ammo, buy a box or brick and shoot it through your gun(s).  Certain guns don't like certain ammo.

Very true.

hello. i shoot remington or federal that walmart sells. both work equally well in my 22 suppressors. that seems awful high for 22 ammo. that comes out to 20.00 per 500 which is double of what walmart normally charges for a brick of 500. kirk

My proffered ammo for subsonic stuff is the Aguila SE 40Gr subsonic. I get it locally for about $15/1000 and it groups very well.

FYI to compare some ammo. we will be adding a bunch as well as some quality sound measurements down the road for suppressors.

Are you shooting this out of a pistol or a rifle?  Fed 714  has a supersonic crack most of the time out of my rifle.  Not the best idea for use in a suppressed rifle.

I will be shooting it in both a pistol and rifle.

Is it true that the Federal Bulk Pack sold at Wal-Mart will remain subsonic out of the Walther P22?

CCI Subsonics are pretty quiet, and The Federal bulk pack was a Little louder.  You could tell a difference for sure, but the Federal was still definitely quiet out of my P22 with an outback.  The Aguila Super Colibri are as quiet as you can get.  No Powder.

I just got my suppressor last night.

I went around to stores to look for ammo today but all I could find was CCI 29 grain @ 710 fps.  I haven't got a chance to shoot it yet, but somehow don't think it is going to cycle.  That is some sub-sub-sonic ammo.

The guy at the gun store told me that he shoot normal velocity 1500fps rounds out of his suppressor and that some suppressors are designed to work with super sonic ammo?

I think I might order some Aguila from AIM since no one around here has anything.

the P22 won't need subsonic,  Winchester Dynapoint is subsonic out of rifle length barrel and is copper washed bullet without exposed lead.

I buy the CCI stanadard velocity.  100 for $5.99

But as others have said, check a bunch of brands to see what your guns like, then buy in bulk.

Your's seems to be a good price, if your gun like's it.  Where can you find it?

That is from ammoman.com.  $199 shipped.  I will be trying out different brands for sure before I buy in bulk.

Those are probably CB Longs.  Those are quiet out of a unsuppressed gun.  CB Longs in a long barrel 22 bolt gun are around 121 to 122 dB.

They are too weak to cycle anything.  They are made for shooting rats a close range or target practice only.

The Dynapoints are pretty quiet, but they don't group that well out of my guns.

With my Buckmark, TacSol barrel, and Outback 2 just about any ammo stays subsonic.  I buy whatever is cheapest to run in it.  I haven't had any cycling problems.

With the suppressor on, my 10/22 and TacSol barrel combo runs best on CCI subsonic and CCI standard.  Remington subsonic is louder and seems to have some "duds".  The quietest out of the 10/22 that still cycles for me is PMC moderator.  I ramped the bolt on my 10/22 and installed a bolt buffer and it cycles LOTS better than it did when stock.  You can find out how to do this yourself at rimfirecentral.com.

In my bolt rifle, subsonic ammo from Wolf, Aguila or CCI seem to group best.

Like everyone else said, don't buy mass quantities of ammo until you test it in your setup. .22 ammo is so cheap it is fun to experiment!
