I just got through my first six months of my reloading hobby. So far I have only loaded .223 match ammo for a reduced high power course. So here I am thinking about fall to load some .308. I know all about the problems with FC brass in .223 but does the FC .308 brass have the same problems? I have about 100 pieces and was wondering if you guys have had any issues with these as well? I plan on loading some hunting ammo to be shot out of a Remington 700 bolt rifle. |
Source? Just do not expect good case life! The brass is soft and as such the primer pockets are opened after a few firings, and no where near the case life of that of WW or Lapua!

| The only source that I have is personal experience. It all comes down to the brass being a little soft and also having a thin web. you can probably do ok with some mid range loads but for hunting loads (which for me means a little on the hot side) you might get one, perhaps two before you notice the pocket expansion. Again, I doubt that you will run into a safety issue with a bolt gun but I would tread carefully with a semi auto. |
I'm on my 5th cycle with some FGMM 308 with no real loose primer pockets. Moderate loads. It's a small, 20 lot sample size, so not the final arbiter of 'softness' but I do have about 170 more pieces prepped, primed and ready to fiddle with. Chris |

In 308, the FC brass I had went 1 reload (once fired) and the primer pockets were too loose to load again. In the scrap bucket they went. Remington and Winchester brass don't have this problem. I am shooting them in a Ruger bolt rifle, 150 gr hunting loads, 1 gr below listed max. Which was the most accurate load with my bullet/powder combo. Add 338 Win Mag FC brass to the same list. No problems with WW Super cases. Federal is my favorite pistol brass, but their rifle brass is |
