Anyone hear of a .30 Army round? Supposedly uses 220gr SP bullets. Old West Scrounger lists them but I've never heard of it.

.30-03 or .30-40 Krag?

My gut says Krag - since it was the first Army .30 cal.

30-40 Krag with no doubts here.

You guys were right. It's the 30-40 Krag. Thanks.

The old, old school way was a heavy bullet at moderate velocies.

30-40 Krag was a short timer, was replaced by the 30-06.

30 Krag

Guns and ammo are common.

I see a lot of 30-40 Krag ammo in the 180gr but OLS lists a 220gr round. Maybe that weight is uncommon.

That was the old original issue.

This cartridge bridges the era of black powder cartridges shooting heavy bullets mostly with rounded nose and the era of smokeless cartridges shooting spitzer bullets.

Hence the .30-03, then the .30-06 after facing igh speed German spitzers in the Spanish American war.
