| Hey guys we just got a dillon 550 and we are going to reload some .44 mag to be shot out of a desert eagle. I have Nosler 200gr jacketed hollowpoints, pmc brass, winchester primers and alliant 2400 powder. Will it be ok to load 20 grains of powder with this bullet? Im new to reloading, and I just want to double check. Thanks a lot! |

Sounds a bit light. Here is Alliants data; http://www.alliantpowder.com/reloaders/RecipeDetail.aspx?title=Pistols%20and%20Revolvers>ypeid=1&weight=200&shellid=33&bulletid=54
I use 24.8 gr of 2400 with Seirra 185 JHP's using Winchester cases and CCI Mag primers. This load is pretty hot and I can get around 1750 fps from a S&W 629DX with a 6.5 inch barrel. |
| Wow, i didn't know that. I need to go buy a relaoding manual tomorow. I only loaded like like 60 shells so I won't load anymore with 20 grains then. it will still shoot the bullets just fine with 20 grains though right? I read that the max was 25 grains, so I decided on the 20... |

I read that the max was 25 grains, so I decided on the 20... General rule of thumb, start about 10% less than published max. So if 25 is max, start at 22.5. Another thing to keep in mind is if you are at or very near max, back off a bit if you change anything in the recipe like different primers or a new lot of powder. |
