application paperwork questions: at home FFL, part time, mostly transfers, a small amount of items stocked or specific firearms stocked and any orders people want as well as gunbroker type online sales FFL-FFL or pick up in person when in same state with NCIS check. 1: adding a responsible person. I am not home every night due to my job, but my fiance is. If I need to ship firearms when I am gone, can I have her ship them or do I need to be the one to ship. with that in mind, for her to ship does she need to be listed as a responsible person? She would rather not be listed on the application. also, I probably will not have her do it, but IF I needed to have her run the NCIS check, can she do that listed as a responsible person? I am guessing yes since guys at gun shops do it and not the owner, but just wanted to check. also, kind of the same question for receiving things in the mail/ups/fedex. does she need to be listed for signing for them or not a big deal? 2: anybody know if CO has a charge for NICS checks? 3: business hours: my schedule can at times alter each week, so I am not sure what I can put as far as business hours. they would change weekly, if not then probably monthly. This brings be back to question one, because then I could have at least 2 days of uninterrupted business hours with her listed for the weekends. I am usually home during the week. 4: pictures: can these be taken/printed by you or do they need to be done at walgreens or something like that. I still have to read about this one on the app., but thought of it now. as far as the interview goes, anybody here that is a part time FFL or does kind of the same thing I am looking at doing, any advice to questions etc. would be appreciated. I would like to get my app. sent in in early January after I get the fingerprint cards and the pictures done. |

well she is soon to be my wife in June...so in a way she can help out but as far as paying her and having her on payroll or something...then the answer would be no. She would only help out on the occasion that I needed something taken to be shipped. I won't have her doing 4473 or putting anything into the books. |

If you use USPS and your wife takes firearms to be shipped, then you'll want her on the FFL per http://www.titleii.com/pdf/PS1508.pdf. Will your wife be involved in the business in other ways? There's the "gun" part of the business, and then there's the "business" part (filing, invoicing, bookkeeping, accounting, taxes, insurance, etc). Will she be handling any of that? |

Will she be handling any of that? what about UPS or Fedex? USPS would be convenient though. She wouldn't really be part of the "business" aspect. I wouldn't have her involved in the bookkeeping or accounting or taxes or doing the background checks or anything. All I might ask her to do is take a gun I have already boxed up, write a address on it if that hasn't already been done and ship it out for me during the times when I am gone and need to get it shipped out. now that you mention insurance, what should I look for as far as that is concerned? It will be a home based business and I was going to call my homeowners insurance and talk to them. is there anyone else specific to talk with? what kind of cost/rise in cost would I be looking at? |

This would be your best bet. We have an agent who we'd dealt with for 15 years before we got the business. Our premiums doubled. |
