So my G22 is in my hands.  Also in my hands is a slightly used TLR-2 from EE, sans batteries.  Also in my hands is a pair of Duracell ultra CR123A batteries that set me back $18!  Obviously, there's some serious precious metal in those babies!

Over to Wally World, there are Rayovac Lithiums for $10 a pair.  Just over half the price of the Duracells.  My question is: are the Duracells that much better?  A question for the hive and those of you who use these things.  This is my first weapon light, and the first device I've ever owned that uses CR123's.

I understand that there are places online where the 123's go for $6 a pair or so, and I'd also like to know if those are worth stocking up on.  For now, though, I've got a choice between two birds in the hand as it were.

Thanks in advance for any response.

Here's the deal: The real issue with these devices is whether or not the circuit is regulated. Most 123s are the same, with the main difference coming between lithium and non-lithium types. That difference is that lithium will hold a charge better over time...so if you want that light to be there when you need it, despite the fact that it has been sitting for a year..then get the lithiums. They are a bit more expensive. I have never been wronged by the surefire 123s either...

So if both the Rayovacs and Duracells are lithium (they are) I may as well get the cheap ones?

Why not get the sure fires the local shop has them for like 6 dollars a pair around here and I have found them to be the best in my lights.

Get the Surefires. They run around $2 a battery. Do NOT go cheap and buy Chinese or Pakastani. The circuit breaker inside, or more importantly the one NOT inside, prevents bad things from happening. There has been more than one explosion with things set on fire using cheap batteries. It does happen. And it can do more than mess up your light, it can mess up a Glock frame (has on a Glock G23 issued to a Fed LE.). Think about what that will do to your body.

I use numerous devices that require 123 batteries. They will not have anything but Surefire batteries inside.

My local Lowe's has Surefire 123s for $4.95 a package.  I buy them there because they are the cheapest in town.

I have been told by a guy in the industry that surefire and duracell are the same battery.... I buy the surefire because I can get them in bulk.

Surefire has a box of 12 batteries on their website for $22.50. I've also seen them at Cabela's for a comparable price.

Damn!  That really makes me feel like a chump for paying $17.84 for a pair of Duracells!

I guess (since I fortunately didn't open them) it's off to Lowe's for some Surefires and then to the return counter to get a refund on the overpriced Duracells.  Thanks, Hive!

Will also order backups online on payday.

I'll do that, thanks.

Meanwhile, I hit Lowe's, and not only did they have them, they were on sale for $4 a pair  Up and runnin'.

I've picked up brand spankin' new Energizer CR123's on Ebay for as little as $1.05 per battery...

PS - And from what I have read over on CPF, they are made in the same US factory as the SureFire, Duracell, and Rayovac CR123's...

The CR123 lithium batteries will keep for years. It's best to buy them in bulk. You can pick up some good deals on Fleabay.

Saw that.  CR123 lithiums a buck apiece shipped. Thinking hard on stocking up at that price.
