I have been through Leathermans, SOG's, Gerbers, and some other crap.  There is nothing that compares to the (fullsize) Swisstool.  Mine gets daily use and I have had it for years.

I used to be a Diehard Leatherman fan and hated it when people bragged about the Swisstool, but it is better, though LEatherman has come a long ways lately and either will serve you well.

I love my SOG Powerlock.  I once cut through some chain link fencing with it and now the head is a little skewed.  I am sure if I wanted to get it fixed SOG would, but I haven't had any problems with it.

I have a SOG Powerlock EOD and love it. It's been through a couple years of hard use so far, with no problems at all.

I only have one, Leatherman Wave. To me this has the best compromise between the number of tools and weight.  Weight is definitely in the back of my mind.

I'd steer your torwards a leatherman wave or supertool. I have both and each has its positives and negatives. I usually recommend the wave over the supertool, But 90% of the time I have the supertool on my belt (sentimental value.).

This

I've had my oldest one for 15+ years.  One-handed opening, great blades, and excellent warranty.

I just couldn't get used to the opening of a leatherman (open "handle" digs into your palms), impossible to open one-handed.  Tim Leatherman's politics simply sealed the deal.

Got a SOG Powerlock and love it. Feels great- solid, really well made.

Parts are exchangeable, you can replace bent or worn out parts, if you're into that sort of thing.

Looking to give them as gifts to my groomsmen in a month.

The older Leatherman Supertool 200 with the lock.  I have 4 or 5 of them.  1 on my person, one in each car, one at work, one with BOB,,,,,,,you get the idea.
