Give same weight, caliber, tail design. would the powder charge be the same irregardless of tip, manufacturer, etc? Bullet manufacturer manuals (sierra, speer, hornady) seem to specify their bullets more specifically, where lymans will be 55 gr SP. I dont see how loading a 55 gr bullet would be any different would be any different if its a ballistic tip, a hallow point, or a soft point. |

The shape of the ogive and the jacket thickness cause different bullets of the same weight to produce different pressures. That's one of the reasons to use start loads below maximum to start, or to drop back when changing one component in a load you're already shooting. The pubished load data gives a good place to start when the components at hand are not precisely identical. |
