| will freezing a full camel back harm the pack? going shooting tomorrow and it's going to be hot over 90+ degrees. |

I've had them freeze in the car in winter. I think it'd be hard to get it so full that it would pop. It might not melt as fast as you want though and you could end up with a block of mostly ice on your back. Just fill it full of ice cubes then fill it with water. |
I'm a professional and I advise against it. |
Thats my experience, I hate the soggy back FWIW I've frozen mine when full (or at least almost full) of water and I would SWEAR the thing would tear, but it's held up like a champ. To avoid a rock-solid bite valve, blow into the tube till it's empty, then shut off the valve. Voila! |
Big +1 I use one at work with ice water, and every night I get that, without fail; moisture-wicker undershirt be damned. But it works better than bottled water, so I deal with it. |
It's recommended to freeze it dry and empty to keep funk from growing in it. Unscrew it, fold it up and stick it in next to the Ben & Jerry's... That's what backpacker magazine said in the March 2007 issue. I'm pretty sure that Jon Austen, head of product development for Camelbak's outdoor division knows what he's talking about. |

I have read the same thing about freezing. The reason is to eliminate the Funk and always have a bladder filled and ready to go. Example.. you use it for a couple of days. Instead of draining it and drying it out.. fill it back up and then throw it in the freezer. Quick and easy. A couple of weeks later you need it, pull it out and go. if it's warm enough it should melt quick enough to start drawing water from it. Most users will let a partially filled bladder sit in a pack or the basement for a few weeks after using it and not clean it right away.. then they get pretty funky. I don't do the freezer thing, I drain and fill the bladder with a few paper towels and let it air dry for a few days. And tweeter... stop buying Ben and Jerry's... those guy's are a bunch of liberal hippies.... |
I put mine in a large ziplock freezer-bag and it seems to totally stop wet pack/wet back. |
