I may have gotten myself in a little bit of a bind.
I had an AR lower engraved. My lease is up on my current apartment Dec 31. My wife and I have had discussions about maybe moving to a new apartment. If I submit a form 1 now (next few weeks) and then move to a new address before the stamp comes back, is there an issue? Do I need to stay in the same city that is engraved on the lower until the stamp comes back? |

Call the ATF-NFA branch and ask them.
I don't believe you have to live in the same city. Your hometown is simply where it was "made" and the weapon can go somewhere else within the state. There is a change of address form on atf.gov so ask them if you need to fill one out while the form 1 is pending. Alternatively, you could fill in the engraving and have it refinished. Engrave in a different location on the lower: front of magwell, trigger pins, or under the FCG on each side of the trigger. Lastly, see if your current apartment housing will let you stay month-month without signing a new lease. HTH. Good luck. |
