On ebay I am seeing an aluminum M1A 3rd gen looking mount for 27$ shipped free.
It is most likely a chinese copied product.
Anyway, one of my two M1A's are a Fed Ord with the chinese parts. Being the other parts are chinese what would it hurt to deck the rifle out with a knock-off mount and cheaper leupold mark4 clone.

Is the mount being aluminum going to effect it that much?

I could just put that money into a USGI bolt for the rifle. That is really the only chinese part I dont care for, but it still works fine.

M1A and cheap scope mount are never used in the same sentence.

I have learned enough from my P.O.S. SA scope mount wobbling around to know that I want a mount that engages the clip loading dove tail on the reciever.  I noticed that Smith's Enterprises has one for a good price now.  Its on their discontinued page for $125.  I went to another retailer and they are still selling it for $350.  I think it was one of their first low mount types and have since moved on to better things, but for general use it would be fine.  Does anyone know anything about this mount?  Any wisdom would be appreciated!

the ARMS #18 for $184 is a good mount, but they are in short supply now, like most everything else you want.

The mount I was looking at is a duplicate of it, but made of alumium.

The SEI mount for $125 is not the same as the SEI mounts fro $275+

The $125 model is Weaver spec.  I tried to put the SEI Picatinny rings on a SEI Weaver Mount and it was a No-Go.  Plus look at the exact model for sale when it comes to the SEI mounts as some retailers put the pic of the Picatinny Rail and sell both the Picatinny and the Weaver.  Also, SEI has made 7 different scope mounts that have varied in price from $125 to $550.

Every so often I get a SEI Weaver rail in trade so I have checked this.  They are great mounts if you run Weaver spec rings.  Just make sure you know what you have to interface with it and what you want to do so you do end up with mismatched parts.

The SA mount is also aluminum.  The best aluminum mount available is the Sadlak.  And it's a good price; but it's definately NOT $27!!!
