I have the Practical Tanto as well as the shorter one with the Fake Ray Skin Tsuka. I will most likely sopme day get the mid lenth Tactical Tanto as well. Great knives in my oppinion, flat ground blades are a bit different than most other Japanese style Tantos with either Bo Hi or double edged. They do have a True hamon rather than a wore brushed or etched like a lot of Japanese Style swords and knives coming out of China. The Leather Ito is a good solid wrap and tight (quality leather) unlike some leather Ito that is either to thick causing it to be bulky or to thin causing a loose sloppy wrap. The fittings (Seppa, Fuchi, Tsuba and Kashira) are solid and of better quality than other Japanese style Tanto's that are made in China The longer 11 inch bladed Practical Tanto can be found on Ebay from time to time for about $119.00. Whoops, I missed Katana. I have a Cheness Ko Katana which is a Wakaziski with a full size Tsuba. I believe the fittings on the Ko, Shura, Practical, SGC are all about the same and somewhat generic. Stamped Seppa, Tsuba and Fuchi, Kashira are pretty plain. I think Cheness is just another offering by paul Chen as the emails I had after buying a differnent Cheness all came from Paul Chen. The Practical Katana has a pretty good rep as a solid cutter from a lot that I have read. Karsten Karsten |
Actually they are two different men, both apparently named Paul Chen... not the same company at all. Go to Swordforums.com, good board if you are into swords & such. |
