I was curious. If I wanted to load a 90 grain bullet (in 5.56 case at magazine length) at subsonic speeds shot out of a 11.5 inch barrel 1/7 twist AR15, and if stable, would use a suppressor. I am pretty sure it won't cycle the action unless I go with a custom recoil spring (experiment) and I may have to open the gas port a lot more as well.

what powder should I start with?

Since I am going to load these at subsonic pressures, should I worry about seating depth with such a long bullet?

what is your best guess on pressure curve with the recommended powder, I was thinking Trail Boss since it is a bulky powder to fill the case, compression load.

anyone want to hazard a guess?

Pretty sure a 90 gr bullet cannot be seated to mag length for a 223/556.

This , I do believe that the ogive on the bullet would be at the neck... hence nothing for the neck of the case to hold on to.

I agree. If you want to shoot subsonic, why not a 9mm upper with 147 grain bullets?

I have one of those.

basically I have everything I want or need, so now I'm "playing" with guns.

I already have a 11.5 inch barreled upper and I have a can for it, so now I am experimenting with custom  applications for fun.

I've never played with the 90 gr bullets, but the 80 gr Noslers seated to mag length has only a small amount of the ogive inside the case neck.  Not ideal, but may be doable for you.
