I have a BM AR15 that is accurate but if not cleaned will jam over time especially, with wolf ammo. I have to keep it oiled well too. I'm sure all it needs is a little adjustment like removing the M16 bolt and heavy buffer. I was thinking of getting a piston upper or converting it to a piston upper but decided to get a new type of rifle. My AXR (Aug clone) doesn't like wolf ammo at all and I haven't fully tested it. And, its not broken in. I also, dont like the fact that it doesn't have a bolt release and can't change shooting position to the left side with out turning the ejection port face downward.

Nevertheless, I have decided to buy another rifle. I'm looking at the XCR but don't have any experience with them. Anyone have one that was well tested and compared to an AR?
Does it have a bolt release button or to you have to use the charging handle?
Does it have a forward assist?

Would you recommend another rifle?

I was one of the early adopters, so I would say I have a little experience with them.  It has been my duty rifle since after the break in.  It has gone through every rifle class I have taught as my demo gun, got shot a lot while I was on SWAT and been through a patrol rifle instructor school.  I have over 15 K rounds with 98 % or more of them being wolf.  It still shoots as accurate as it did when I first bought it.

It has been used through every weather Missouri can throw at it.  Temps from 0 to 105, rain, sleet and snow.  It has bounced around a trunk since I bought it ( I forget how many years now).  The finish still looks good on it and the steel parts aren't showing any signs of rust (department AR's don't look near as good).

I like it so much I built a second XCR as a precision rig.

In rifle class, I had to shoot almost half the rounds left handed.  The only thing missing is an ambi mag release.  I really like the bolt handle for left shoulder manipulations as I roll the gun to where the ejection port is facing the ground and use my right hand.  It works well and lets gravity help clear anything.

What else would you like to know?

Yes there is a separate bolt release located on the bottom between the mag well and trigger guard.  It has a FAL looking charge handle on the left side which can be pushed in to act like a forward assist.

Mine functions perfectly with Wolf ammo if you put the gas on setting "3".  All other brass cased ammo tried works perfectly on setting "1".  I too wanted a different rifle.  I am VERY pleased with mine.  It feels "built like a tank".

Why do you not liking turning the ejection port down?  I turn it down when I do failure drills from the right side.  Gravity always works so you might as well let it help.

The bolt lock is ambidextrous and works great.  It can be reached with the strong hand trigger finger or the off hand thumb.
