I aquired a lemat revolver at a local gunshow for 850.00 does anyone know anything about them. this appears to be a reproduction

Of course it's a modern reproduction and you got it cheap. Important, when firing, the bar at the bottom can come open and allow the barrel to misalign with the cylinder. I put a piece of duct tape on mine to hold it in place when shooting. The other variation of this uses a different type of pin. Most people put buckshot or birdshot in the 20 gauge barrel. The originals had a mold which cast one section of a three piece cylindrical bullet for that barrel. To fire that barrel, flip down the attachment on the hammer. |
| Very cool acquisition. i picked up an Unfired Navy Arms Cavalry variant from the early 80s, one of the first 1500 made. Originals were .42/60, i remember reading Val Forgett did not like his guns being passed off as originals, so he made those clones use a .451 ball and .65 or 20ga smoothbore. The front of the fame has a lever that needs to be lowered to start field stripping, then unscrew the pistol barrel off the center barrel, threads are in the little ring that hangs under the barrel. Also the smoothbore barrel will unscrew from the frame as well. When firing the smoothbore barrel, the hammer will not fall far enough forward to rotate the cylinder when cocked again so you don't skip a chamber on the revolver. Look up the history of the gun during the War of Northern Aggression if you get the chance. Imagine having this when everyone else is carrying a six shot. Supposedly Gen Jeb Stuart carried a pair of them into combat during that war. |
