does the deflector behind where the empty shell comes out of the AR-15 ever rust or corrode where the finish get's wore off?

The upper is made of aluminum, so it won't rust. Some chemicals can attack aluminum, but they would also likely be very harmful to skin, so you'd know if they were around.
