Ok, so i realize these types of questions are asked often, and knives are a very personal thing, but I have grown sick of researching and I would like some fresh ideas/opinions.
I need a new EDC/Work/Do all folder... I have been running a Kershaw Blur for awhile and I like it alot but I did the stupid and tried to use it as a lever and snapped the tip off... so its time for a new one. I will be using this mostly as a tool, for when my actual tools are too far away and I just need to get things done now. Uses will be cutting straps, peeling stickers off things, cutting shrink wrap, cardboad on occasion, digging things out of things, and general all around abuse. I use my knives everyday and I think of them as a multipurpose tool. So with that said, im looking for a TOUGH knife, something slim and maybe with a slight drop point, half serrations are a plus... not so much because i use them, but I am just used to them, and a grippy handle is a MUST. As I said before I have been running around with the Kershaw Blur for awhile and i love just about everything about it... and if worse comes to worse I will just grab another one of those but I am open to other options. I have always like the SOG Tridents... But ive never fondled one so I am not sure if they will fit my hand as well are the Blur does. I was waiting breathlessly for the HEST Folder to match my HEST fixed... but the whole debacle with it has turned me off, I REALLY love the blade on it though and it looks like it would be perfect for me in all respects... but I can't seem to find it anywhere for less than $150 and that is my upper price range, so does anyone have any good deals on it and is it worth the try? I really would be supremely happy if the stars would align and the HEST folder came into my possession at the price I want with the quality I expect, any chance of that in reality? I have looked at the Benchmade Barrage on their website... looks interesting, but once again never fondled and the price tag is heavy for sight unseen. I do not like the ZT 0350 look or style - it is just too much of a beefy knife (might sound silly when compared to my statement about the HEST being my perfect choice, but there it is) so anyone want to comment on my 4 choices (Blur again, Trident, HEST/F, Barrage) or suggest others to look at and possibly the best places to find decent prices? |

One of these.
Add 2 to the cart to see the price. http://www.gpknives.com/advanced_search_result.php?osCsid=65e0fa1813dba0b15e83acaf8b6aa2b4&keywords=barrage |

Knifeworks.com has the hest for $174.95 which isn't that far from your $150.00 especially if thats really what you want.
Find something laying around you can sell on the EE for $25.00 if money is that tight. I think you have to preorder it though. I feel in love with the ZT 0350 at a gun show last week end. It's not that much bigger than the hest. Hest 7.625" ZT 0350 7.75" both have G10 scales. I will admit the hest looks cooler, but that crap going on with hest and esee is, well you know. I just order a ZT 0350 from a site sponser here mooneysfirearms.com using their discount code here and with free shipping it came out to $100.80 |

To each his own, but for me an extra $25 is well worth 'peace of mind' in getting what I really want versus settling for something else. |

Word of caution on the HEST/f. If you do get one, it may be a little bit before you get one that is perfect. I'm on my second one now, and i'll probably be sending it back. First one came scuffed, no biggie but it was also near impossible to open. And when I loosened it up to where I could open it the blade was not centered and was rubbing the frame. And the thumbstuds were not flush with the blade.
I got the replacement in and it's perfectly centered opens like a dream and all is well.....Except that I think I could push the lock loose with force to the blades backside. It moves, and it shouldn't. I'm going to keep it for a bit and see if it works itself into a niche as some have said that it cleared up after some opening and closing. I would like to add that the DpXgear customer service is second to none. I am happy with the knife overall and the lock isn't that big of an issue, if i'm using the knife for something that is going to put any force other than regular cutting, i'll be using the rotoblock to lock the knife up tight. Have you checked out any spydercos? I know they say the Manix2 is a pretty solid knife, and I think they can be had for just under $100. I think my favorite knife right now is my para-military, I paid $105 for it. Another option is the cold steel american lawman or ak47. I know alot of people give coldsteel a hard time, but their triad lock is superb, and you can normally snag one of those knives for around $50 as well. I think the ak47 even has a "wave" type feature for opening if you want that. |
| I am also looking for a knife like u described! I just got an izula and love the thing! It works great ar an edc too! I just started reading up on the tops / buck folder. Check that out and let me know what u think I might order one . Currently I'm using a benchmade griptilian for edc and seams to be very tough so far! I didn't like the cheap plastic feel of the handle at first but the open and close and lock up work so well that its hard to put down. |

. I carry the recon 1 as my EDC blade. If you look around you can get them for around $65.00. The CS AK blades or Lawman are very good as well.
