| i just stripped and cleaned my M1A the other day for the first time (400 rounds). i know the gas plug was pretty tight when i took it apart, and i wanted to know if it matters how tight i should close it? |

snug but not crazy snug.
also you may want to put some never seize on the plug or at least clean both threaded sections (plug and gc) and lightly grease before you reinstall. ETA- It's often recommended to mark the nut and the lock with a stripe of white paint or two corresponding dots of paint to allow you to realign them consistently. You can actually change impact of the round if you vary it much. I can't explain that other than saying you change the volume of the space inside, it's pretty well known. |
