Was given an old cartridge with headstamp - 762 F M 48 ( 762-top, 48-bottom, F-left, M-right ).

My only source of reference lists 3 possibilities for FM:

Établissements Industriels de Défense, Damascus, Syria

Fábrica Militar de Cartuchos de San Lorenzo, San Lorenzo, Argentina

Fábrica Nacional de Municiones, Santa Fe, México

Yep 30-06, looks like a military primer, but has a lead tipped projectile.
Frog ammo, so it's probably only been surrendered once or twice!!!
