so I'm looking to trade my remington 1100, and I have a couple offers on the table;1) a s&w model 19 blued, 4" barrel, has some slight surface rust and some holster wear but otherwise in good shape. 2) a ruger american .270 with scope and case. I believe the smith is probably worth more, and i may get more use out of it at the range, as i tend to shoot hand guns more than rifles, however I have always wanted a .270 as another option to hunt with instead of my model 70 .300wsm. currently I have 1 revolver(EAA indicator .357), 2 semi auto pistols, a rem 870, a marlin .22mag and the aforementioned win model 70. guess i'm just torn as to what to add to my collection. what would you do any why?

I'd get the .270, but I have several hand guns and not so many rifles.

I wouldn't trade an 1100 for either.

Not sure on the age or how good of shape the Rem 1100 is, but nether trade sounds all that good to me.

Are these private or at a LGS?

the shotgun is "used", it functions flawlessly but has some surface rust/speckling on the receiver. I don't have much use for this gun, as I have my wife's 870 if I need a shotgun, which I very rarely do, as well I will eventually look into a camo shotgun for turkey hunting, the 1100 is a basic wood grain. I'm surprised no one thinks the value of the smith to be equal to the 1100, as I value them both somewhere around $400, as well I believe with the add ons the ruger is somewhere in the same range and there for any of them would be even trades value wise. they are both private offer trades

Yep; Only one I might consider would be the 19 if it was in better shape.

Use the 1100 for a turkey gun, camo it if you feel that it is necessary.

Of the two, I would be more likely to trade for the S&W19, but I would be even more likely to keep a good 1100.
If the 1100 is working for, you keep it unless you have some other really good shotguns, or you really want that 19.
Just my $0.02 worth.

My first thought was like the others, I wouldn't trade the 1100. But if you are no longer interested in the 1100 why keep it.
In that case I would go for the 19. I have a nickel 19 and of 3, .357's it is my favorite.

thanks everyone, I wound up selling the shotgun out right, and I'm buying a s&w model 27 from a family member at a really good price, so thats the route I went.

Good, sounds like a much better deal all round.

Out of the 2 listed I would definitely go with the 19.

+2

The Model 19's have a rep for not being able to handle long term shooting of .357mag rds before the forcing cone cracks. In fact, they highly suggest not using 110gr .357mag ammo at all due to this. While I love my 2-1/2" Model 19, I don't shoot magnum loads a lot out of it.

The Model 27 is a much, much better trade, IMO.

The 1100 is the best defensive firearm and most versatile hunting gun of any that you own or are considering.

And how long have you worked for Remington, sir?

Read your update, 19s are great guns and on many levels shoot better than anything else but a 27 is a special thing and not at all easy to find.
Seems you did just fine.

Here in CT it seems like every other used bolt gun on the racks is a 270 or a 7mm . makes no sense to me we can't hunt public land in CT with anything but a shotgun but unless you had a hot need for a 270 that trade would have been silly

I'm usually the first guy to say how much I hate the 1100 since I have never found one that was reliable without opening up the gas ports.

However, neither one of those is a good trade.

Selling it and buying a Model 27 on the other hand was a GOOD trade.
