I mounted a burris 4X-16X electro dot scope on a DPMS Panther with a high riser mounting base. I used Leupold QRW quick release rings. When I laser bore sighted it the elevation has to be screwed all the way down to bore sight. I would rather that it was not bottomed out. Someone suggested shims but I can not find any for that type of mounting. Any suggestions?? By the way my house got robbed last week and the punk broke into my gun safe and stole seven guns as well as some other stuff. At least I get to rebiuld my collection. |

I have heard of people using shims as well, but do not know where to find them. Do you know if they are manufacturer specific? Might be able to email Leupold and see what they say. Seven guns stolen?!?! That sucks hard.... were they insured? IIRC some guys have posted models and serial numbers in hopes of catching the guy trying to sell... |

Yeah, I was insured but the deal is pretty crazy. My safe got broken into, not on the lock side, but he went at the hinges. They were not internal. Now that I look at it is is pretty easy to crack. My advise is to buy the most expensive "vault" you can buy. I am in Houston so I know from experience that the cops suck here. (trust me I know) They will not return my phone calls. This is what I lost: Remington ADL LH wood stock(minus the bolt) Glock 21 with hicap mag Springfield Armory Loaded SS Vepr .308 (minus mags) Remington 11-87 Synthetic Mossberg 835 Ultimag Mossberg 20g Pump Oh well, just ordered a remington 700 VS LH. My girlfriend came home in the middle of it and ran the bastard off!! |

I'm very curious about your safe. Can you post pics? I can only surmise that it was a less expensive model that didn't have bolts that threw all the way around the door? About your scope mounting issues. I can't say much but for a couple of suggestions. U.S. Optics might have a mount base that will adjust elevation but would raise the scope even more and cost bucks. If you use shims, it would probably be a good idea to lap the rings in that configuration to avoid damaging the scope. |

The safe was a Wallymart special made my sentinel. I could kick myself for not buying something better. I don't have the pictures developed yet. When I do I will post them. They obviously brought tools. They only broke the upper portion and just slid everything out. By the way does anyone know what the deal is on the coupons that Springfield Armory is offering when you buy an M1A and when they run out?? |
