Hey guys, need some advice from other north Carolina members or anyone in the know. I'm looking to purchase my first machine gun, but don't understand the new laws that went into effect December 2011, prior to this date you had to get a permit from sheriff to own a machine gun, and then it was only for backs, military, law enforcement and business owners in protection of their business. After December 2011, they did away with the permits and the new law states that what ATf says is legal to own , then it's legal now. Anyone know about this or have any info on the law, what I wrote is what I understand it to mean, but I'm not sure about any of it, I know ATf is now accepting Mg trust from NC, where they weren't before. But like I say all this just my understanding and I'm looking for any input on law and what route to take. I spoke to a lawyer that didn't have any clue as to the law at all and said it would take him some time to look it up and interest the law. Thanks for any help guys.

Until the NC Attorney General says you don't need a permit for an MG, you still need a permit or ATF will not approve your transfer.  As of recently the AG has not made a ruling.

Ok, well I don't know what to think then. Cause I did read the rule that said there is no more permits. I guess NC will never give in totally. I just can't figure new law out at all. And it's so new that most people don't know anything about it, including sheriffs and class 3 dealer. I'll post a link to the law if I can figure out how to.
