Not sure what your ? is but here goes : Get somebody like Ted Brown to build you one. But, be sure what you want, what you're going to do with it and what you're talking about before you call him. And get $2500-3500 ready. Or look for a used SA Inc. Supermatch.

You can't lose with either choice. Be prepared to spend a minimum of $2500+

What do want out an M14/M1A? Either may be right for you or either may wrong.
Your looking at very purpose specific M1A.

The White feather is a scope only rifle with a heavy weight barrel set in a Mcmillan M3.
It should be a great rifle in honor of Carlos Hathcock, but it's not rifle I'd want for regular plinking, hunting or any kind of protection beside straight long range defense.

The Super Match is just that, their highest level match rifle and also has a heavy barrel, is rear lugged and not really as versatile rifle for other stock choices and other roles besides shooting matches.

What are looking for out of this rifle?
You can tune any model, but different barrels, stock choices, and setups are better for different uses.

Since this is a newb thread ( me too) if you'll pardon a minor hijack, what are some decent makers of M1A?  Circumstances is my brother who really, really wants to get a .308 semi auto, removable magazine  fed military rifle but doesn't want the "evil black rifle" look.

So that kind excludes AR, Galil, and FAL  and leaves the M14/M1a as about the only candidate that has a true military heritage but still has traditional lines.

We did talk about the M1 Garand, but he didn't like the 8 round clip fed internal magazine setup.

Any input on pro's and con's of these various makers?  Or any others that are out there?  These are the ones that surfaced in a quick search.  He's looking for a reliable shooter, not match grade, and wants to mount a scope.  Like i said,  I know next to nothing about the M1A,  so thanking you in advance.

You can go the finding parts and buying a receiver seperate route too and have a few good armorers make one for you.
Only Springfield's are M1A's, it's their name for an M14 clone. All others go by their own name for their models.

Seperate from having an armorer make one for you, there are really only four main builders that I'd get rifles from and that's,

Springfield Armory Inc

LRB

Smith, you will need to provide some parts for them though. Call and talk to them about it if your interested.

Fulton

These days for my money Springfield M1A's are the best deal, but if money wasn't a question and I wanted the best there is than I might have Smith build one for me with their full M80 treatment with an 18 inch barrel set in a modified usgi fiberglass with the hooded GFLS and DC Vortex.

You should read as much as you can handle in archive threads on the M-14forum. You'll learn as much as you want to.
