| That sounds like an excellent deal. I recently saw a non-GB Mini 14 with a blued finish and factory folder sell for 1100.00 in excellent condition. Ruger factory folders routinely sell for north of 350.00 on Ebay, sometimes much higher. If you figure in the value of the stock alone, and the going rate of an older Mini you will quickly see this is a good deal. Having a stainless finish is a big plus and makes it more valuable. Is it a government model? If so, stainless GB folders sell for around 1500.00 in excellent shape, as GB folders are LEO weapons as they were never released to the public. If it comes with factory magazines, that makes the deal even sweeter, especially if they are 30's. There is alot of info missing for me to say definitively, but it sounds like a pretty good deal, provided the gun is in good shape. I would be hesitant to buy it if it were a 181 series as these were the very first Mini 14's which had some issues and use non-standard parts, which aren't interchangible with newere Mini 14 parts/accessories. |
| Just an update.I bought today.$750.Its a 184 series which according to ruger's website puts it at 1985 build date.It is not a GB model. It came with 1 factory 20 round mag and 1 30 round ramline mag,50 rounds of ammo and a nice soft case. The gun is in excelent condition.Shows use but the stock still locks up nice and tight.Hope to get out tomorrow and shoot it. |
| I bought it knowing its not aGB model.Just a preban mini with a factory folder .When I first asked the question I had not looked on the aution sights yet.The cheapest factory folder non GB was going for $750 but it was the blued model not the stainless.I live in new york where preban still means something so I am not sure if I can even buy a GB unless of course it was made before the ban. Thanks for the info that is something I didnt know. |
No worries, you seem to have a a factory folder. Check the gas block. If the sling swivel is on the bottom, you have an imitation. If it's on the side, you have an original, unless of course, someone changed out the gas block too. |
Agree with the above post. You do have an original folder. Ruger sold non-GB Folders (with the type of sling mount the defining feature). I've had 2 NIB come through my shop. I can provide you with photos from a 80's era Ruger catalog if you desire. |

Quote from NewbieDave "Ruger sold all their folders on the GB model only .... " So NewbieDave is incorrect then about original folders only shipped with the GB model? I bought a new stainless folder, commercial, for about $400.00 and thought I was paying a hell of alot back in the late 80's or early 90's. |
I was just over at Jensen Arms last week and they had about a dozen used Ruger GBs in stock. They had both blued and stainless models. I didn't check on a price as I hope to never own another Mini-14 again but Jensen's prices are usually very competative and they are a sponser here on the forum. Jensenarms.com |
| Its sick what the ban did to the price certain guns. This gun was the gunshops personal gun that he took with him to the shows(for protection I guess)It looks like it spent most of it's life in the case doesn't seem to have been fired much.I saw one just like it during the ban at another shop for about $1000.Seeing how I still live in a ban state I didn't think $750 was too bad of a price.Still haven't had a chance to shoot it yet. |
During the ban, I saw one in a shop in South Carolina that was priced at $1,650. Hell some clown at the shop aven drew the A-Team logo on the tag. Now to address a misconception. The ban is over, but those things are still going for a lot because that dirty SOB Bill Ruger refused to sell any GB models or folders to non-LEO. Same goes for the mags. He discontinued the 30 rounders and only sells 20 rounders to LE. Even after his death, Ruger won't sell that stuff to us. Check out their slogan: "Arms makers for responsible citizens". Yup, anyone who wants folding stocks or >5 round mags must not be "responsible". Condescending fucks. /rant |
+1 point for GB model -1 point for non-original, wrong finish stock. LIke a 69 GTO with a 454 under the hood: It may be cool, but there's no replacement for original equipment when it comes to collector's items... |
|
LOL...! I don't own any collectors items-----------------------they're just guns to me. I don't sell my guns. This particular stock came off a NIB---unfired by the owner---nonGB gun. He didn't want to register the gun. I removed the stock and installed a new Hogue Overmolded Mini stock. Total cost was $45.00 (wholesale cost of the Hogue stock)... |
Not really sure about that on the sling swivel location. We bought two GB's back in the mid-80's that were supposedly surplused from the Kentucky State Police. Both have the front sling swivel on the bottom of the gas block. Or, am I misunderstanding what you are saying? dvo |
